Influence and Function of Community Music Activities on the Popularization of Music Education

Research Proposal Instructions:

this proposal is for PHD application.

my major was in art management and music performance/music education. but my problem is that i am familiar with essay but not sure about research methods or any research paper. so i need a professional writer to help me finish the research proposal to communicate with those professors.

my requirements:

1.my target directions: music education, musicology, music physiology, Ethnomusicology, performance study, theater.

but because i am not good at choose the topic( phd need a really narrow and specific topic to do the research), so i choose the community music, community music festival or music festival to do my research. because it can covers all music theory directions, especially music education, art management and ethnomusicology.

2.Topic reification

i think the topic is the hardest way for proposal.

this part i will write in chinese for you to have a better understand。

First of all, I make sure I do: community music festival/music festival research

There are two target cases: Anaya community (Qinhuangdao) or Hong Kong French May Art Festival

The Anaya community is a very new type of art community in the Chinese art industry. It is developed by a real estate company and designed and produced with art as the main body. Among them, Anaya brings together the best quality music and art resources in China, and carries out various art and music activities throughout the year, including music appreciation, theater festivals, exhibitions, New Year's Eve parties, and fashion walks. It is a very comprehensive and high-standard art community . In the past two years, it has played a very good role in popularizing social art in China, especially in the north. It has become a utopia for young people in the north, and it has gradually radiated across the country. At the same time, the various commercial activities they opened on the island, such as restaurants, merchandise shops, etc., have made good profits. So I think this area has certain research value. Can this new type of art community become the mainstream of Chinese art development in the future? Is there a very far-reaching educational development for the music education of young people, especially college students?

But the problem with the Anaya community is that it is not a very well-known area and is based on the concept of real estate developers. I don’t know if this topic is contrary to the academic world?

If I don’t make Anaya this place, I might consider writing about the Hong Kong French May Art Festival. The influence and development of music education in Hong Kong. The specific topic may be determined by the writer for me. I am not sure from what angle to write about the French May Art Festival. Or if the writer has a better entry point or target music festival, he can also communicate with me.

My paper was inspired by the following two articles

1The Music Festival as an Arena for Learning

Festspel i Pite Älvdal and Matters of Identity

2. UNVEILING WOMAD’S HUMAN FACE:

TOWARDS A CRITICAL ETHNOGRAPHY OF WOMAD

Writers may use these two articles as inspiration to build a structure, but they cannot be plagiarized or their views are too similar. In this way, there may be nothing new academically. I hope that the writer will control this aspect.

Besides

I hope the research proposal can be written completely and professionally

I had an article before that included

Background ................................................. .................................................. .................

Statement of the Problem .............................................. ...............................................

Purpose of the Study .............................................. .................................................. .....

Objectives of the Study .............................................. .................................................. .

Exploratory Research Design(research methodology) ........................................... ............................................

Participants ................................................. .................................................. .................

Ethical Considerations.

But these are not enough, I need to be more complete, so I must need literature review, justification.

Writing does not necessarily follow this list, you can choose a method suitable for music research. But include some important points.

For details, please refer to research and thesis writing (CUHK)

It is best to have an article produced before September 15, and we can discuss it if there is any modification.

Thank you~~

Research Question
Research Question Festivals are ancient events that humans have organized for thousands of years and are essential elements of late-modern cultural life (Koopman, 2007). The sociological profiles of festivals, ranging from substantial popular events to tiny, niche avant-garde events, are similarly diverse (Karlsen, 2007). Cohen (2007) inducates that popular music has an influence on the lifestyles of a city or community and informs the way a particular community is perceived or valued. Cottrell (2004) indicates that musicians use an enthonographic perspective to conceive thier self adientity.  In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of musical events and experiences carried out in communities globally. The phrase "community music" is often used to describe these activities and experiences (Guo & Cosaitis, 2019; Taylor, 2017). Despite the lack of universally accepted definition of community music, experts generally agree on three primary characteristics that include community development, collaborative music-making, and personal growth. Nonetheless, at the theoretical level, little attention has been paid to the potential of communal music as a significant element in music education. The majority of community music literature focuses on individual initiatives rather than addressing educational problems systematically (Kartomi, 2014). If researchers do mention community music's academic potential, it's usually in the context of broader ideals like self-employment and social empowerment (Guo & Cosaitis, 2019; van Niekerk, 2010). The evolution of community music activities as a potential to popularize music education as a whole has been largely overlooked. This study, therefore, seeks to investigate the function and influence of community music activities in the popularization of music education in the Aranya community. With specific reference to the Aranya community in Northern China, the guiding research question of the study states that "How do community music activities promote music education in the Aranya community? The following specific research questions will also guide the study:
  1. What is the extent that Chinese students enjoy popular music and community music festivals?
  2. What are the preferences of community concerning music learning within music classes and outside class environment?
  3. What are the challenges and conditions that facilitate promoting music education?
  4. What is the level of community interest in different music festivals or activities in the Aranya community?
Rationale Music education in China is constantly changing to accommodate new methods of thinking, learning, and musical culture (Kartomi, 2014).  Music practices at communal level provide excellent opportunities to develop music skills associated with acting and thinking. Furthermore, there are few prospects for long-term musical education development. Many groups, including children and adults, are deprived of great opportunities to improve their musical talents as long as they do not create such views. As a result, it is essential to look at the degree to which community-based music events support music education and how they do so. Therefore this study is to comprehensively investigate the educational value of communal music activities in Northern China. This study focuses on addressing the gaps of missing research on the importance of community music activities in promoting music education. The study’s significance extends to understanding the extent to which Chinese students enjoy popular music and community music festivals, the community preferences concerning learning music in and outside of school music lessons, and the level of community interest in different music festivals or activities in the Aranya community. Methodology A research design is a comprehensive strategy for answering the research questions and dealing with some of the challenges that may arise throughout the research process. Because this is qualitative research, data collection and analysis will be done using qualitative techniques. This study will use a phenomenological research approach. A study is appropriate for this research study because it is based on a phenomenological research design that tries to put aside prejudices and previous assumptions about human experiences, emotions, and reactions to a specific circumstance. Phenomenology is a qualitative research technique for describing how people react to a particular event (Ritchie & Lewis, 2003). Phenomenological research will be typically conducted through qualitative questionnaires and Key informant interviews to collect data from students and community leaders based in the Anaya community (Qinhuangdao) in Northern China. The target population are the different school-going children and community leaders based in the Anaya community (Qinhuangdao) in Northern China. A sample of 40 study participants, including both students and community leaders of the Anaya community (Qinhuangdao), will be utilized for this study. The Snowball sampling technique will be used to select school-going children and community leaders in Northern China. The study will use a qualitative survey questionnaire to gather primary data from the Anaya community's chosen pupils and community leaders (Qinhuangdao). Qualitative questionnaires are designed to elicit more in-depth answers regarding the study's subject or issue (Ritchie & Lewis, 2003). The qualitative questionnaire's questions are always aimed at determining the participants' understanding of a specific study issue. The purpose of this qualitative survey questionnaire is to gather information from students and community leaders in the Anaya community (Qinhuangdao) on the impact and function of community music activities on the pop...
