Introduction
The subject of human rights is an international issue requiring the attention and cooperation from all nations to ascertain that everyone enjoys their rights. It is because every member of our global society should freely enjoy certain rights just because they are humans. Crucial to the discussion is the fact that international organizations and domestic institutions facilitate the protection, promotion, respect, and fulfillment of human rights under the global human rights laws. Further, developing and powerful nations such as America commit their resources into ensuring that leaders from different nations uphold human rights. As evidence, McDonoug 2013 argues that America holds countries from the Soviet Union publicly responsible for upholding human rights. It is notable that the Vienna World Conference on human rights recognized women rights as human rights, a fact that has been reaffirmed at all conferences that proceeded. Factual Background
According to Miller (2004), women rights advocates have been struggling for years to draw attention on problems faced by women in the society. As evidence, the author argues that the UN had failed to promote women’s rights despite the fact that the UN Charter was built on the foundation of non-discrimination based on gender. This owes to the reality that a global conference held in Nairobi identified women’s rights issues as a major concern, but the issue was marginalized. It is also notable that notorious rape cases that occurred in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda also raised concerns for the global society to consider women’s rights issues. As a result, the international society was forced to acknowledge the need for solving problems facing women in the society. Solving the Crisis
It is critical that according to Genesis 3:16-19 God cursed the woman to be dominated by man. However, Ephesians 5:21 directs women to submit to their husbands and husbands to wives. This is a clear indication that even though the bible could imply women are not supposed to have equal rights to men, men should still treat women fairly. In fact, Galatians 3:28 indicates that both men and women are equal before the eyes of God. As evidence, the verse reads, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." It follows that opponents of gender equality should not use the bible to justify their actions. It is critical that the process of resolving women human rights began at the onset of human rights movement. This owes to the reality that Twis (2004) argues that the UN charter of 1946 declared that everyone be entitled to human rights without any sort of discrimination. Be it discrimination based on sex, race, political opinion, social, or national origin, the Charter required that everyone enjoys their rights as humans. The inclusion of the sex in the charter implied that women were also entitled to human rights. As a result, a convention for eliminating discrimination against women was adapted in 1979 by the United Nations General Assembly. This convention entered in the international treaty on September 1981 when the twentieth country ratified it. It is critical that even though the UN charter included women rights issues by 1979, the UN focused on other. It is critical that the plan used was the best cause of action because the elimination of discrimination against women depended on the advice of a special committee. As evidence, the decision to eliminate discrimination against women was reached after reviewing a survey for thirty years. The same author further reveals that a body that was tasked with a duty of monitoring all the need for promoting women rights was established as early as 1946. It is also notable that the decision was made after aligning the need for women right issue with the goals of the United Nations. What are the goals of the United Nations? "To reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity, and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women."
