Name Instructor Course Date Romani (Gypsies) The Romans are also commonly known as the Gypsies is a travelling group of people. They had a dark skin and hair and spoke Romani language. The Gypsies lived by seasonal work or through fortune telling. Most of the Romani are found in North America, North Africa and also in Europe (Gypsies, Stereotypes, Offense and Truth 2015). This culture of the Romani originated from India. The Romaniare nomadic ethnic groups, implying that they are travelers. The estimated population of the founding population is thought to be several hundreds. The Gypsies had a great economy since all the people were working and had different occupations. Based on where they came from they were singers, animal trainers, storytellers, actors, and also musicians. They were travelers thus worked in occupations which they could relocate and still make some more money in order to support their families. These occupations allowed them to move and it is the main reason as to why they keep travelling with the aim of making more money. They tend to follow money, hence they go wherever their occupations may lead them. With time also their occupations changed. Women begun to stay at home cooking, cleaning and taking care of their families, thus they were considered to be there their husbands’ servants. They were homemakers hence they are not supposed to work (Education of Roman Children in Europe 2011). The men became the breadwinners, they travel to wherever place they find work and return to their families. Since they were travelers, they did not own land, hence they never engaged in any farming activity. They only ate by the rule of the product that was available and what was being offered by the economy. They were known to eat food of the poor, mainly road kill. For most of their meals they ate potatoes and meat. The social structure of the Romani community was also family oriented where family always came first. The main aim of the culture and the social structure is to ensure that the coming generations keep it. The social conduct of the Gypsies was determined by the Hindu purity laws. They had a belief that there were parts of human being which were impure like the genital organs and the lower body part due to the emissions from those parts. The clothes from lower body part were to be washed separately. Other beliefs which were connected to impurity include the childbirth and death. The social structure of the Gypsies lacked different aspects of social life such as education. In the past the Romani did not attend any school since they were travelers; they were taught from families and friends (Roman Victims of the Holocaust 2014). They are only taught on how to work and support their families. Gypsies spoke the Romani Language and also had a different dialect to their language since they moved from one place to another and interacted with different people. Many of them were bilingual, thus they spoke their language and the language of the country where they were living (Kann 2016). Due to the many languages which they spoke together with interactions with different cultures, they had different religions. In the very beginning they believed in God and the Goddess (Roma 2011). When they started traveling they adopted the religion of the country which they were settled in, examples of the religion that they practiced include Muslim, Catholic, Orthodox, Wiccan, Hinduism, and Romani based on the various countries and cultures where they migrated to. There are difficulties and issues that the Romani faces today. The Gypsies are known to be beggars, parents are known for teaching their children on how to pickpocket and beg the tourists. In many countries, it is very hard for the Romani to find jobs because they are considered to lack the necessary skills and knowledge necessary for various occupations, thus ending in the begging corner (Roman Victims of the Holocaust 2014). Another issue that they face is that most of them live in traveling homes and out of caravans. Despite their living conditions in some countries they are required to pay utilities and taxes which is legal. Despite the action of paying taxes being legal, there are illegal camps in Britain, where the Romani do not pay any bills and also taxes. In countries such as Italy, the Romani families are denied access to housing due...
