The Global Impact of Palestine-Israel Conflict
The Palestine-Israel Conflict
Contrary to the common perception that the Palestinian-Israeli dispute is a domestic issue that only takes place within the area of the Middle East, it resonates in the entire international community where it distorts the dynamics of relations between nations. This conflict that dates back to a century ago is a result of a variety of factors such as long-standing historical enmity, boundary disputes, and complicated geopolitical rivalries that make simple solutions seem hard to come by (Cohn-Sherbok and Dawoud 20–21; Dwiastuti; Ishamali and Okoi 100–106; Shlaim; Wambrauw et al. 224–226). It is often a point of contention among the nations, organizations, and individuals that exist worldwide, which underscores the affiliation between international politics and regional war.
This conflict in fact presents a dramatic collision of identities, stories, and ambitions which are historically tied. A crucial milestone in the Middle Eastern conflict was reached in 1948.
… the emergence of the Zionist movement under Herzl’s initiative as the initial clash between the two nations. This action also triggers the rise of nationalism of
Palestinian Arabs during that time. She also emphasized that cultural
misunderstanding become their clashed long before the Balfour declaration in 1917.
She believes the clashed happened in 1882 through the historical event of the First
Aliya (wave of migration) of Zionist Jews into Palestine. Dwiastuti (21)
These events led to continuous conflict and bloodshed that is still prominent today. The immunity and removal of the Palestinians during the heart of Israel, also the extension of the Israeli settlements in the occupied territories, are the frequent eruption lava that feeds the grievances and keeps the circle of the violence and the mistrust (Cohn-Sherbok and Dawoud 20–21; Dwiastuti; Ishamali and Okoi 100–106; Wambrauw et al. 224–226).
The unceasing dispute between Israelis and Palestinians is rooted in a cluster of situations that keep on the explosion of disputes and frustration. In addition to these catalysts, refugee crisis intensified during the mass forced evictions and evacuation of Palestinians from their native places in the inner of the Israel in particular during the Nakba time era. Moreover, the increase in the settlements of Israelis in the occupied territories, particularly in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, has made the disputes a lot bigger and showed a constant conflict between the settlers and the local inhabitants. This kind of violence has become a protracted retaliation and source of ill feelings, as the Palestinians perceive the settlements as outright illegal and a hindrance to the creation of a legitimate state within the Palestinian borders. The project of building Israeli settlers in this territory is regarded as a breach of international law and a tremendous obstacle to any possible peace process. Additionally, the impunity of the perpetrators of human rights violations and violence carried out on either sides adds more difficulty in the Israelis-Palestinians peaceful co-existence. A problem that hasn't come away, and thus the conflict has continued, is the absence of justice addressing historical wrongs and the lack of ways for healing the wars' damage (Cohn-Sherbok and Dawoud 20–21; Dwiastuti; Ishamali and Okoi 100–106; Wambrauw et al. 224–226).
Beyond traditional factors, modern complexities add even more layers to the already challenging context, when the political, social, and economic problems get mixed up with the long-lasting grievances and the sovereignty issues. The status of Jerusalem, the rights of Palestinian refugees, and the possibility of the two-state model are some of the issues that remain unresolved intellectually, which creates tension that sometimes erupts in violence. More importantly, the entry of outsiders for example, neighboring states, regional players, and super powers has another facet to deal with. Their involvement is a result of their competing interests and alliances, which define the direction of the conflict (Cohn-Sherbok and Dawoud 20–21; Dwiastuti; Wambrauw et al. 224–226).
The Conflict as a Global Issue
Global consequences of the discrimination conflict between Palestine and Israel are not only multiple and diverse but also can be seen as far away as concentration camps. In terms of geopolitics, Middle East stability becomes an even more valuable aspect for the energy security for the whole world, economic prosperity, and the international anti-terrorism struggle. Among such a constant struggle is the reason for the enthusiastic support on part of the extremist organizations that take advantage of the collective anger of the dissatisfied population to force their cruel motives along. Moreover, the clash is more than just local conflicts because it is also related to broader global norms and principles, such as human rights, self-determination, and the rule of law, that are regularly monitored and scrutinized by the international community (Wambrauw et al. 227–230).
