Conspiracy theories are most times associated with falsehood and are considered to be a threat to the security of a nation or the entire world (Uscinski 4).In most cases, they are speculations or even close to the truth, but they are equally important too. Some people chose not to think intricately about them and instead find these theories fun and ridiculous (Uscinski 5). The existence of conspiracy theories may hence evoke fear and panic or simply just entertain. The conspiracy theory of big pharma's hidden cure for cancer suggests that; a group of pharmaceuticals is working closely with politicians against the good of the people. This theory depicts pharmaceuticals as villains and indicates that there are hidden truths about the cure of cancer. The argument has led to people merely believing that medical research is a platform for profit-oriented companies to exploit the public.
Cancer treatment can have adverse effects on the health of an individual. Hence it is a fact that it can damage or improve one's condition. The Scepticism behind the competence of pharmaceutical companies in coming up with a cure is the root cause of the doubts on the information relayed to the public. The public instead feels that they are being brainwashed, yet this group of pharmaceuticals has access to the cure. The theory claims that government institutions, scientific groups, and academia are involved in the big pharma theory. Speculations suggest that big industries employ pressure on experts in academia to cover up the truth about the cure of cancer (Weigmann 260). This theory hence makes the public to lose trust in their authorities.
