SWOT Analysis Pursuing a Specific Career Path
Final Paper: 1, 5, 10-Year Plan
Remember you are a senior year student who is about to go to graduate school, I am a male under 21.
( Carefully read the introductions! You will be using SWOT Worksheet for this work )
For your final paper, you're going to build on many of the foundational principles we've discussed over the course of the semester in 3 distinct phases.
Read this webpage and watch the video embedded there:

Phase 1:
Your culminating activity will involve determining your major goal(s) for the next 1, 5, and 10 years as they pertain to your career path. Obviously, your career path will impact and also be impacted by elements of your personal life, so it is permissible to bring personal circumstances into the discussion. However, make sure to keep the overall focus on how your career life path is a central component to your future aspirations. You may choose 1 major goal to discuss for each year of your plan or several goals for each year--that decision is yours to make. Write your goal(s) with the S.M.A.R.T. goal method.Phase 2:
Once you determine your goal(s), you will then conduct a SWOT analysis (as we discussed in class) to determine the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats you may experience as you work to achieve your goal(s). Strengths and Weaknesses are internal characteristics (think of family/friend support, skills and abilities, educational level, etc.) to consider, while Opportunities and Threats are external factors (think of changing technology, the economy, political influences, global security, etc.). Please view the video in the link below and read the corresponding article, then use the attached document as a template for creating your own SWOT analysis worksheet (if it's easier, you can create your own SWOT table in the Word document for your paper by making a table with 4 boxes--2 rows, 2 columns). You will conduct 1 SWOT analysis for each year of the plan (1 ,5, and 10 years) for a total of 3 SWOT analysis worksheets. When filling out the worksheets, you do not need to write paragraphs and sentences. Simply describing your Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats as bullet points in each box will be sufficient. See the SWOT Worksheet here:
SWOT Analysis Chart – Career Management.docx
Phase 3A: (1 single-spaced page for each year; 3 written pages total)
In narrative form, describe each part of your SWOT analysis for the given year in more detail. You will do this for each year (1, 5, and 10) of the plan. For example, consider the following types of questions:
How can you use the strengths/opportunities to overcome the weaknesses/threats?
How can you maximize the strengths/opportunities and minimize the weaknesses/threats?
Knowing your weaknesses/threats, what can you do to overcome these challenges?
Which of these factors: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, or Threats will play the most significant role in the journey towards your goals...Why?
Based on the results of your SWOT analysis, what action steps can you take to help you achieve your goals?
Phase 3B: (a couple of sentences at the end of the narrative for each year)
Lastly, for each year describe one step you can take that may be daunting or scary, but you would be willing to attempt to help you achieve your larger goal(s). Think of it as a calculated risk. (Remember our discussion about not letting fear getting the better of you in your career decision making). This part only has to be a couple of sentences (what is the step you can take and how can it help you achieve your goal).

SWOT Final Project
A personal SWOT analysis is essential in developing a better understanding of oneself pursuing a specific career path. The analysis focuses on determining one's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The internal aspects entail strengths and weaknesses, while the external elements are the current opportunities and threats. Focusing on the strengths and maximizing the available opportunities is crucial to establishing a better personality in one's area of professionalism. The first step to developing a successful career path entails setting achievable goals. An evaluation of the SWOT elements will help guide and shape the achievement of my goals. In the paper, I develop my goals and SWOT analyses relating to my career path within a period of 1, 5, and 10 years.
Year #1
GOALS
1 Studying Healthcare Administration in a renowned institution in the country. I aspire to take the course because of its nature, as the work positively impacts individual and social lives while addressing industry challenges. A healthcare administrator works to improve patient outcomes and address societal health challenges. A variety of options are available for the career path. My personality and urge to change people's lives are instrumental in choosing the career profession. I aspire to go to graduate school for healthcare administration studies.
2 Finding an effective study system for boosting my senior school grades. The specific aspect of the goal implies that I will develop three study strategies to boost my performance in my options. I aspire to increase my overall average score by five points by the end of the year. Keeping a track record will help me compare my scores before and after executing my new study system. Aligning the study strategy to my strengths will aid in preparation for tests and understanding the subjects. I will explore various study systems and implement the most effective method within two months.
Narrative
The description entails assessing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to achieving my goals. Strengths are the internal aspects that give me an advantage over other students. Family and peer support are vital in enhancing my goals' practical realization. The support offered in terms of advice, study resources, and cordial relationship gives me an upper hand in implementing necessary strategies for achieving desired goals. Personal skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and flexibility are essential in establishing a conducive environment for learning and attaining better grades for graduate school entry. Working in a clinical setting is also advantageous in establishing and advancing a career related to healthcare. Another internal aspect is my weaknesses, which prevent me from achieving my goals. Irresponsible attitude, impatience, and procrastination prevent my realization of set goals. Minimizing my weaknesses will create a better environment for maximizing my strength.
The external aspects to analyze are opportunities and threats. Opportunities for achieving my goals include having a better background and understanding of ethics and healthcare practices, having a tutor to guide my academic work and performance, and computer literacy skills obtained from studying computer packages. These opportunities are significant as they give me a better chance to attain better scores, thus achieving significant points for graduate school entry. Maximizing the opportunities will help build a better foundation for studying healthcare administration. Advancement in technology is an opportunity to utilize following my computer literacy and programming skills. As there are opportunities, threats also exist on the same dimension. Financial constraints limit the chance to have relevant resources for obtaining better performance in the overall score. The limited number of spaces and high entry points for securing an opportunity in a healthcare administration program is a threat. The fear of examination is disadvantageous as an entrance exam is conducted for enrolling in specific courses. I will strive to minimize weaknesses and threats and maximize strengths and opportunities. I will create a cordial relationship with all my teachers for better performance.
