Albert Einstein once said, ‘It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity’. Well, this statement appears to be true when you relate with the different technological changes that are happening in the world. One of these technological changes is the development of mobile gadgets referred to as smartphones. In our technological age, the smartphone is considered one of the gadgets that human beings cannot do without. The number of hours that the children spend on the gadgets has increased exponentially over the years and this has caused an alarm to the various stakeholders on the negative effects of the technology on development of the children. The use of smartphones has led to slowed intellectual development and social isolation of children in the society.
When children spend so much time on their devices, then the possibility of social isolation will increase. Individuals who feel isolated by the society will not be open when they are sharing their problems with the other people and as such they would suffer in silence. However, the issue of social isolation goes beyond the aspect of social isolation and affects the basic communication skills of the children. Communication is one of the greatest skills that the children are supposed to develop when they are young since it is through communication that they can talk with people and learn. However, with the use of smartphones, the children will not develop the necessary communication skills since they will be doing most of the communication on their electronic gadgets and as such miss out to establish the necessary relationships.
