Marijuana Drug Abuse
The use of marijuana has existed for more than a millennia. However, different people use the drug for various reasons, including; medicine, religious purposes, recreation, and food (Hudak, 1). Knowing the diverse uses of marijuana reveals that the drug can either be legal or illegal, depending on the implemented purpose. For instance, the action of using cannabis in a country where the law does not advocate for the usage is unlawful. This incident can eventually lead to prosecution in the court of law as the offenders would have broken one of the state laws. On the other hand, requiring the same product in the healing process of certain diseases yields confusion since the drug is needed, but the law terms it as an illegal substance. “In the United States, federal and state laws regarding the medical use of cannabis and cannabinoids conflict and have led to confusion among patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers (Mead, 288).” Although most countries in the world have legalized the use of marijuana for reasons like use of the drug for medicinal purposes, law enforcement agencies in the nations should restrict abuse of the drug to avoid the existence of issues such as diseases and failure in professional operations in society due to the influence.
Mead (288) states that although many people in the United States use marijuana for medicinal purposes, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commission in the country has not yet approved the implementation. The pending issue with the FDA shows that the drug might still have some negative impacts on people despite the legalization by the Federal state. Has the FDA researched the negative effects of marijuana? The existing conflicts originate from the fact that the body has not approved the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes. At the same time, it does not offer any apparent reason for the failure. Hence, people will just continue using the drug as long as the law does not hold any legal constraint against the action, and as they also gain viable benefits like the cure of ailments. Besides, people cannot understand how federal laws apply in the clinical context. The people focus on getting the right medication of various illnesses instead of researching the components of the drug since the significant aim is getting well and not knowing how the health care works concerning the rules and regulations in the country.
However, some countries advocate for the legalizing of marijuana despite the underlying use and the possible impacts on their bodies and society at large. "Now, marijuana has gone mainstream, becoming a relevant part of American public policy debates. Medical and recreational use of marijuana has become an increasingly legitimate and accepted practice in the United States and other nations (Haduk, 1)." Having the drug legalized pushes many people in the respective countries into practice since they have distinct authorization by the law. Hence, people do not worry about the law since their governments think that cannabis is legitimate, not looking into any possible effects. Haduk (2) notes that twenty-five states and the district of Columbia had authorized the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes by 2016. The primary issue arises from the fact that people mistake the declarations in favor of what they ever wanted to practice. In this case, the announcement resulted in four other states in the same district legalizing the drug for recreational use. While people from different locations might think that they have similar positions in the use of marijuana, the twenty-five districts are using the drug for the right purpose while the four states are abusing the drug.
Most people in global populations show distinct comfort with the use of marijuana as they believe the benefits overdue any underlying consequences. Hence, the demographics advocating for the usage might have less or zero worries about the negatives effects of using the drug. “Public comfort with Cannabis (marijuana and hemp) has recently increased, resulting in previously strict Cannabis regulations now allowing hemp cultivation, medical use, and in some states, recreational consumption (Schwabe et al.)." The rules and regulations initially instituted to curb the prevalent use of marijuana have lost efficacy, to the extent of allowing the growth and cultivation of the drug. In this case, the drug will eventually dominate the global population since people in the demographics can freely grow and access. Looking into the realization of gaps to maintain economic growth and development brings the awareness that some people may use for the substantial provision of income. If the people need the drug for medical and recreational purposes, they will look for it, and the growers will get into a better position of supplying and gaining substantial benefits.
Although some institutions like National Institutes of Health/National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIH/NIDA) worked with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to identify the medicinal benefits of marijuana, their efforts did not reveal the anticipated results in the ultimate identification of the drug towards or against legalization. The research aimed at identifying if the use of marijuana is drug abuse or not. The groups grew cannabis hemp and induced it on some people for medicinal purposes in the United States. However, the exercise did not yield the expected results since the clinicians using the drug initially to heal various illnesses used a commercially made product from Colorado (Schwabe et al.). Hence, the two groups of people using different brands showed different effects. The people consuming NIDA research products had different impacts on the people using the average marijuana as a commercial product (Schwabe et al.). Although the research did not achieve the anticipated results, it identified that the use of marijuana has different impacts on different people depending on the growth conditions.
Knowing that the use of marijuana from different sources does not have correlating impacts on the various individuals calls for attention in the ultimate identification of the benefits and effects of marijuana. The variations do not justify that the drug does not have any positive impacts on society. However, the primary issue originates from the need to identify if the most influential aspect between issues such as medicinal purposes and the ultimate effects of drug abuse.
