The rich had the priority of the good life which was reserved for the few. Open sewers was the order of the day with them running down the streets carrying sewage water fouled by human waste and industrial waste, this sparked diseases such as typhoid, tuberculosis, cholera, typhus and other water and air borne diseases.

The disease is spreading rampantly within the society a condition that the prince and Prospero feel hopeful and happy. The prince closes the doors of the palace to prevent chances of the plague and ignores the pleas of the people on the land (Helsing 102). The prince considering months of desperation among followers throws a ball considered fancy masquerade. The palace is decorated with one color resonating with green, purple, blue, orange and white, there are a number of other colors painted in the palace.
Rooms are decorated in such a way that the colors match the glass stained windows. The clock is so round in way that it is disrupting the orchestra and everyone stops talking. The clock is set to ring every one hour. Considering the moments that the clock is silent, the rooms are filled up with swirling and dreams. The room painted with black and red is avoided by the revelers and guests basing the presence of ominous ambience and the clock. Midnight comes and new guest appear. The guest is dressed in ghoulish manner with masks resembling the corpse, garments taking the shape of funeral shroud.

The guests and revelers are afraid of the masked man in a state that they fail to stop him visiting each and every room. Prospero gathers confidence and catches up with the masked guest at the Red and Black room (Poe Para 2). Prospero dies as soon as he confronts the masked man. The revelers and guests charges at the black and red room to attack the cloaked man but they find the room empty, only find the costume. This leads to the death of each and every person in the castle (Cary 77).
