The world is undergoing significant changes in the communication and language sector. As these dynamic changes are being noted this gives no chance setback for the language and communication sector not to develop. Besides, all languages which individuals speak in certain regions are also being influenced by the way the people live and the activities they do (Baldauf 103). English is one of the dominant language which is spoken in many parts of the world. Due to this there has been an increased interference of the Standard English. Different communities have different approaches to the meaning of the Standard English words thus they might apply them differently considering that the words have different meanings in different occasions, and differ from one society, country or region to the other.
Societies and nations develop new languages through blending of words from local languages in relation to the actual application of the Standard English language. Considering that many of the societies have attached different meaning to the English words, they might decide to apply it differently. The capability and capacity of the society to understand English language differ (Lannis 162). Different societies then end up formulating their own English language in relation to the Standard English language which is easy and clear to them. Also they formulate language which suits the region they live in and the activities that they do.
Due to incorporation of the English language it has led to growth of English related languages referred to as slang. Slang is a kind of language used by specific individuals or societies to meet their communication demands and it is believed that it is not a Standard English. It is influenced by the society’s language thus it is a mix-up of the original English language and the local languages, but it is presented as English. It differs from one region to the other basing the fact that language change from one society to the other. Its application in specific regions makes individuals from other regions find it difficult to understand the slang. Some forms of English languages are universal and are applied worldwide. One of these highly known forms of English language that is mostly applied is the Hinglish.
History of Hinglish
The word Hinglish is a combination of the word "Hindi" and "English". It is the macaronic utilization of English which is a mixture of the Standard English and the south Asian languages. Even though the name is called by the "Hindi," it doesn’t mean that it is used by the community only, but it is used in the Indian regions. The language involves the blending of words from the Indian society and the Standard English. The language is greatly promoted and facilitated by the British Asian families within the Asian regions where they live. The language has encroached to other regions of the world, and even some of its words are mistaken to be Standard English.
From the time of existence of the British Raj, some Indian words began to be blended in the Standard English. Similarly Standard English words have been imported from Britain and being utilized in the Indian setting. Words such as pyjama, thug, Guru, Yoga are derived for the Asian communities and used as Standard English. Due to the globalization, the Hinglish language has grown and it is recognized in many areas of the world. The social media has been very key in the development of this language. The internet has similarly played a very significant role in the development and growth of this language (Jane 46). Authors and other writers have also used this language in their work.
Author Devyani Chaubal was the first to use Hinglish in her work. Bloggers within the Indian society after learning this from have started using Hinglish language in their work too (Pingali 475). It led to further development and realization of the Hinglish language worldwide. Within the Indian society, for the past decades the Hinglish has been greatly utilized within the advertisement sector leading to it being recognized by many individuals within the society.
