Fairy Tales
One of the striking similarities in the story about Gregor and Snow White is the fact that they both are fairy tales, as such; much of the material is imaginary. As for Snow White, the story has some relations to magic, good and evil as well happy ending. In the case of Gregor, there is not much of magic in the story other than the creation of a city under the New York City where the creatures are bizarre. In the end, Gregor also finds peace and there is the element of a happy ending much as with Snow White. In the case of Snow White, there is the element of a beautiful lady being kissed by the prince charming, awaking her from her deep sleep and they live happily ever after. While in the case of the Gregor the Overlander, the main character finally finds his father after defeating the rats that captured him and escapes to a happily ever after life. With Snow White, the story is created right from the first instance in the same universe, while, in the case of Gregor, the readers are taken to a different universe, under the normal city. In the beginning, Gregor lives in New York, later on, Gregor and his sister fall into a deep hole where they find themselves in a new city. In both stories, there is also the mentioning of the royal persons, such as the queen and the kings in Gregor and the evil queen and the prince charming in Snow White. Most of these relations indicate the time these stories may have been created. Looking closely at the two stories, there is the aspect of the bizarre creatures that are created by the authors to give the stories the fairy tale element. In Snow White, there are the seven dwarfs while in Gregor, there are rats, coach roaches, and the spiders. All of which are given life and humanistic characteristics, such as talking, organizing their troops for war, capturing their enemies, caring and showing compassion.
When Gregor and his sister fall underground, the creatures seem to think that Gregor’s sister is a princess. As Gregor and the sister are trying to escape from this universe and go back to their home, they meet the six foot rat. Immediately after, there is a war with the rats, after which Gregor escapes and saves his dad, who had been trapped by the creatures underground.
