The March On The Capitol 2021: A Show Of Vengeance In Predator-Prey Revenge
The march on Capitol was an attack that occurred on January 6, 2021, where a mob of Trump's supporters stormed the U.S Capitol in an ambush against the U.S congress. This insurrection was mounted by Trump supporters who tried to overturn his defeat in the 2020 Presidential election as they argued that the elections had been rigged. They marched to the capitol building to seek vengeance and justice as they wanted Trump to be sworn in as their President. This paper shows the theme of predator-prey revenge as the republicans tried to shift the power balance. The march on the Capitol is a clear show of predator/prey revenge in which the republican protesters exacted revenge for what they perceived as a violation of free and fair elections.
This kind of revenge is evident in the story of the monster and Dr. Frankenstein. The monster goes after the doctor and ends up killing his entire family. The doctor, in rage, goes after the monster and ends up losing his life in the snowstorm (Shelly and Mary 16). The doctor turned predator after the monster exacted his vengeance and continued the cycle of revenge.
The nature of the attack portrayed the predator-prey revenge as the rioters were protesting against the election's outcome regarding it as "stolen". They claimed there were election irregularities and tried to disrupt the counting of electoral votes. The rioters occupied and vandalized the building, where they also attacked the capitol police officers. They put up gallows on capitol grounds and attempted to harm the lawmakers; they also wrecked and ransacked some of the Congress members' offices. This clearly shows that the protestors worked all these out well and were ready for violence as they attempted to overturn Trump's defeat. The lawmakers nonetheless acted up due to the online chatter they are receiving in the events surrounding the inauguration; hence the cycle of predator-revenge is observed. A quote from the article 'America on High Alert as FBI Warns of 'Armed Protests' read that The "FBI director is warning that authorities are tracking extensive amounts of online chatter calling for more violence next week. Five people died in the Capitol insurrection, and it is becoming increasingly clear that it could have been much worse. We get new videos like this every single day." The calls for violence are a clear show of defiance and revolt against the just concluded elections. They were a sign of revenge on those the party believed to be taking away their democratic right to elect President Trump back into office (Niquette, et al). This encounter and many more after show that the march was organized and intended to use forceful violence to get the republican’s point across.
Security was bolstered in preparation for the inauguration day after the capitol attack to avoid the recurrence of the attack in the inauguration ceremony. Trump's supporters were spewing anger and felt vengeful even weeks before the attack, so it was necessary to strengthen security ahead of Biden's inauguration. Some police officers shared the assaults they faced during the capitol insurrection, and it shows how it was essential to fortify security before inauguration day. These police officers faced many challenges while trying to maintain the resistance since they were outnumbered; 30 0fficers against more than 15000. In the 'Security Increased at Washington D.C. Ahead of Inauguration Day' article:
One police officer Daniel Hodges had this to say about the nature of protesters in the march "There is a guy ripping my mask off, and he was able to rip away my baton and beat me with it. Moreover, he was practically foaming at the mouth. So just, these people were true believers in the worst way."The insurrectionists attacked many police officers as they fought to break into the capitol building. This was a counter-attack encounter as they sought to seek vengeance. There was a lot of fear regarding Trump's supporters who could create chaos in the days leading up to the President-elect inauguration. The police expected the protests and were fully prepared, and the Pennsylvania Avenue streets were also cleared. These, among other several measures, had to be taken to prevent the same attack from happening. In the 'U.S. tightens security ahead of Joe Biden's inauguration' article, The National Guard sent 15000 troops to safeguard the capital and help provide security and communication. Visitors were also asked not to attend the inauguration ceremony as the capitol grounds remained on high alert.
The Republican Party leaders set the march in motion as to what they considered as unfair elections. The predator-prey revenge is rampant in this case as the Republican members tried to overturn the election after alleging that there had been voter fraud in the elections, which led to violence. 'D.C. Security Heightened Ahead of Inauguration' Jake Tapper reports that members of the Congress were afraid that some of their Republican colleagues and staff might have been involved with the terrorist attack. The members of the Congress did contemplate convicting Trump for initiating the attack. A quote from a news statement from CNN senior reporter Manu Raju," Yes, it is believed that impeachable offences were conducted by Donald Trump, but he is not there yet on whether Donald Trump should be convicted." Manu also shared some views of the republican members who believe that the incumbent President's actions were against the law. Trump's most loyal allies had called for a protest and urged his supporters to take a resistant stand to keep him in power. They acted up in violence, trying to shift the power balance.
The predator turned prey as the police and members of Congress considered arresting convicting members of the public who were stirring up violence. According to Jakes' interview, they talk about an arrest made of a man who was seen carrying a Confederate flag through the capitol halls.
Various sources remain stumped as to why Trump's regime did not act up to stop the violent protests. In Rosalind's article, the riots are see...
