Firstly, the history of both the Alcoholic Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous differs and links them. AA refers to a worldwide organization that came into existence in 1935 in Akron, Ohio. According to the Alcohol Rehab Guide, Bill Wilson, the founder of the Oxford self-help group founded the organization and with the help of Dr.bob Smith, the two designed it to offer assistance to former alcoholic dependent individuals so that they could successfully stop abusing alcohol and attain sobriety (Carol).
