Existence of Alien Life in the Universe
Since civilization began, humans have wondered whether they are alone in the universe. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has developed sophisticated tools to explore the solar system and find out whether the aliens exist in the universe (Crowe and Dowd, 14). With the solar system, the missions of NASA have led to the search for the sins of current and ancient life particularly on Mars. Soon, NASA is expected to explore Jupiter’s moon, Europa for the same purpose. Beyond the solar system, NASA’s missions like Kepler and Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) are exhibiting numerous planets orbiting other stars (Dominik and Zarnecki, 499). These missions have encouraged NASA to scientifically address whether humanity is alone in the universe. Evidences like number of UFO sightings, existence of many stars, increasing number of earth-like planets, the sheer size of the universe, the age of the universe, and the availability of water throughout the universe show the possibility that humanity is not alone and alien life could exist in the universe.
Possibility of Existence of Alien Life in the Universe
Whether or not humanity is alone in the universe is one of the greatest mysteries of life. On earth, humans find themselves in what (Dick, 144) termed as ‘‘Goldilocks Zone,’’ which implies that there are just favourable conditions for hosting life, but scientists have discovered other planets thought to support life. These Earth-like planets are thought to have water, which is the source of life. When discussing the possibility of the existence of Alien life in the universe, Scientists often focus on any form of life and not actually an advanced race (Graham, 08). Based on various scientific evidences, there are reasons to believe that extraterrestrial life exist in the Universe. These reasons are discussed as follows.
The Number of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) Sightings
UFOs have been spotted in many regions across the world. Scientists have used these objects as evidence to show that Aliens exist in the universe. Recently, strange footage of a mysterious UFO changing shape in the sky over Sweden emerged. According to Crowe and Dowd (49), the intriguing footage is among the many UFO sightings recorded in history. Overall, scientists have identified more than 1000,000 UFO’s in the past century (Crowe and Dowd, 49). These objects have made people to believe in the existence of alien life in the universe.
Existence of Many Stars
The existence of many stars in the universe is another probability that alien life may exist according to (Wilson, 10). Wilson (10) noted that even though there is no direct evidence for any life beyond earth, the universe is home to numerous stars. The previous research has also shown that more than 50% of those stars harbour planets (Dick, 154). Dominik and Zarnecki (504) estimated that the Milky Way alone has about 1 trillion stars, and some of them have encountered what earth has experienced, and even developed life. In support of Dick’s (154) claims, Wilson (10) stated that the Milky Way has many planets that can potentially host life. Dick (154) noted that this argument is one possibility that extraterrestrial life could exist in the universe.
Increasing Number of Earth-Like Planets
In the past decade, researchers have discovered various exoplanets and most of these planets are gas giants and other inhospitable planets (Crowe and Dowd, 49). Researchers have also found other-earth-like planets, which they claim can host life (Crowe and Dowd, 49). Some of these planets are situated in the ‘‘Goldilocks Zone&rsquo...
