Research Presentation for Business Topic
Even it is generally understood that individuals use technology to improve the effectiveness of their communication, the tool does not guarantee the desired outcome. Meaning individuals are not assured that their use of innovative ideas and technology-aided communication tools implies effective communication. With the increase in the pace of change and advancements in the modern business world, individuals must ensure that their communication methods are aligned with those of their target audience to realize the desired goals. Due to the above reasons, the topic elements of communication are deemed more appropriate for this presentation. The presentation begins by outlining the primary elements of communication, offering an appropriate explanation for each using available empirical research data, and lastly, exploring their strengths and weakness under specific scenarios.
The Key Elements of Communication
Verbal Messages. This is the most common form of communication. The research by Mehrabian discovered that information interpretation is 7% verbal, 55% visual, and 38% vocal (Dustin 1). Verbal communication entails using words and sounds to pass information. Both the senders and recipients contribute to the implementation of this form of communication. Verbal messages are crucial to maintaining the relationships and agreement terms among individuals because of their ease of application (Jiang et al. 249). These can either be written or spoken, despite some individuals who refer to spoken communication specifically. There are several aspects to consider in ensuring the effectiveness of this form of communication. These include clarity, fluency, listening, friendliness, and appropriate word choice (Jiang et al. 249). The opposite of the above is the non-verbal messages.
Non-Verbal Messages. The approach entails transmitting information through non-verbal means of signals. Dustin holds that 70 to 93% of communication is primarily non-verbal (1). These include facial expression, eye contact, body language, postures, and gestures. Using this form of communication can offer individual additional clues and meanings, which is also its primary advantage over verbal communication (Bambaeeroo et al. 51). Communication has been regarded as significant and meaningful in reinforcing and modifying the issues presented in words, conveying them in their emotional state. It also strengthens the relationships and terms among individuals, regulates information flow, and provides feedback (Bambaeeroo et al. 51). The model can be used consciously or unconsciously. This is because it is almost impossible for individuals to control their gestures and facial expressions. It is also not possible for people to view themselves to see what they are doing. Attempts to convey specific messages consciously and unconsciously in the same dialogue complicate the process (Bambaeeroo et al. 51). Therefore, it is justifiable to claim that non-verbal messages enhance the effectiveness of communications.
The Clarity of Thought. Being aware of the concept of the information shared is among the most crucial aspects and purpose of communication. Kapur says that communicators must convey information in a manner that helps it achieve its purpose by thinking before speaking (4). The approach helps facilitate the development of the clarity of thought, expression, and achievement of the communication goals. Therefore, clarity is central to the effectiveness of communication. In an ideal situation, people who think equally clearly express themselves. It is therefore advisable to refrain from thinking that communication processes can be spontaneously carried out. Clarity of thought becomes indispensable in advancing a communication process.
Appropriateness and Precision. These elements are regarded among the most crucial in advancing the terms of message. The information sent should be precise, correct, and appropriate (Kapur 6). Verbal communications are among...
