Introduction
From the philosophical perspective, love describes an abstract noun that is not attached to anything sensible. In other words, it represents a means through which our being is influenced (Fabre, 2019). However, it is undeniable that love plays a crucial role in various cultures, with description taking the form of a song, film, and novel. The Western historical tradition based on Plato’s Symposium presents one of the initiating texts that provide deep-rooted influential and attractive notions pointing to the fact that various elevations characterise love. In this case, the various elevations relate to animalistic desire that overrides various intellectual conceptions of love. Such is also surpassed by the theological perspective of love beyond sensual attraction, including mutual relationships. This philosophical perspective led to the development of other alternative theories describing love. Notably, the philosophical perspective of love encompasses different sub-disciplines that entail epistemology, religion, politics, and ethics metaphysics, amongst others (Ngwu, 2021).
The relevance of love for politics
Politics within a country entails the aspect of leadership alongside the character of various citizens who together leads to the development of a state. In essence, politics determines the nature and quality of governance that informs its capacity for development (May, 2017). Similarly, love for politics develops a love of liberty that encompasses reason and passion. In this case, liberty provides room for justice as well as reason that ultimately relates to truth, rights, and universal moral principles. Such love for politics appeals to virtues expressed in terms of emotions and compassion. The aspect of patriotism translates to particular attachment between people on the premise of cultural similarity that eventually results in commitment towards the good. The choice to love politics should remain a public decision for it to have a public impact. Such politics is considered wholesome because it speaks to both external as well as internal affairs hence creating a harmony that is key to development. Importantly, the concept of both internal and external activism is infused in consciousness that shifts the worldview, therefore producing the type of thinking capable of delivering an enlightening world. For instance, love for politics developed within the 20th and 21st century created a mindset focused on externalities that ultimately leave the causes of problems unaddressed. Such aspects only water the leaves and eventually starve the roots of democracy (Nicholas, 2021).
The ethical perspective of love entails the moral appropriateness of loving and associated forms. On the other hand, in political philosophy, the study of love takes different perspectives. For instance, it can be seen as exercising of social dominance of one group over another, where one group is empowered as another gets di-empowered. On the philosophical theory, love originates from the patriarchy principles reflecting Karl Marx’s perspective on religion representing love as the opiate of women. Such theory seems attractive to women as well as Marxists that view social relations as a reflection of elaborate social structures capable of dividing people according to classes and races (Wolin, 2016).
Love for politics brings about political awareness that provides some level of essentiality to the happenings all around us. There is some level of importance associated with being informed of the daily events and happenings. Indeed, being informed means that an individual becomes aligned to political leaders’ decisions that directly affect followers. Taking the aspect of political awareness seriously helps an individual have a say in the various government decisions concerning governance (Ngwu, 2021).
The love for politics also helps promote better citizenship since becoming aware of negative political waves triggers an individual to become part of the required change. For instance, taking part in a political system that fights state enemies such as corruption. The art of becoming aware of politics around you makes an individual abreast of new legislation influencing the aspect of becoming a law-abiding citizen. Further, the love for politics influences the creation of a better government (Nicholas, 2021). The principle is that politics helps in the creation of new leaders that expels the creation of totalitarian governments. Political awareness helps in the creation of instruments of change within the political system as well as society. Further, political awareness provides an opportunity for voicing opinions about change that provides propensity concerning significant change within the system.
The love for politics plays a key role that ensures the ultimate establishment of peace and collaboration between territories through rules and expected standard codes of conduct. Notably, politics influences citizens’ daily lives irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds and races. Politics establishes a sense of cooperation that encourages communication and acceptance amongst groups; therefore, it helps reduce cases of violence. The political systems around the world exhibit differences in capacities and types. Notwithstanding, political systems are key platforms that help leaders, including citizens, create sound laws and policies. Such laws provide much-needed governance towards resources across various territories. The different strong influences within aspects of the economy and society could be attributable to politics that determine the creation of policies and procedures. Lack of love provides an equal measure of the problem as it provides a solution. In such a case, the aspect of realigning politics with various universal values ensures that the different forces against humanity are dealt with amicably (Nicholas, 2021).
The love for politics relates to everyday life since it shapes the operations of key domains within governments. Politics directly refers to decisions that influence lives. The various experiences that concern a nation require that citizens make crucial decisions that are progressive. A nation refers to a concept that encompasses entities beyond “a country” to individual concerns. The aspect of patriotism considers self-love and that of your country. In this case, political consciousness focuses on self-care that is influenced by political decisions (Nicholas, 2021).
The various changes experienced within societies result from political influences. For instance, in Sudan five decades ago, women wore short dresses, and bars were fully open to the public. However, such things are currently unheard-of owing to the reign of the Islamic government. The changes took place in correlation to the Sharia laws imposed by the Islamic government. The laws have shaped the current generation, emphasizing outward religious appearance rather than conformity (Wolin, 2016). Laws such as the infamous Article 152 prohibiting women from wearing pants have shaped the various experiences. There are mass crackdowns on parties and police officers’ inspection of cars at night prohibiting males and females from sharing the same car. In essence, the citizens are directed by the government on what to wear, how to behave, and manage time. The government emphasises social direction that it feels the citizens need to instil decency. The awareness on the fact that politics involves every decision made that ultimately influences the entire population. For instance, being aware that individual behavior is personal and a result of governance since it affects the entire society makes politics an interesting concept. Such scenarios extend the scope of thinking governance as not only encompassing economic development but also actively contributing to daily lives (Ngwu, 2021).
