Considering the transport industry, the equipment investment fell by 50.8% in 2021 compared to Quarter 4 (Oct to Dec) 2020, when companies reported above-average investment (Vickerman, 2021). Since the transport sector is considered volatile because of the high-value equipment items in the industry, the levels of investment in this sector have been on the decline over the years. Besides, research indicates that short-term leasing and holiday market firms tend to retain their current vehicles to reduce the total fleet size. The COVID-19 pandemic further affects the industry with restrictions in place requiring the need for long-term leasing and higher maintenance for fleet hire. Statistically, the transport sector recorded a 30 %delay in investment over the past year (Subramanya and Kermanshachi, 2021).
