Pain Management and Nursing Care
Introduction
A notable component of contemporary clinical practice in pediatric nursing is applying evidence-based practice in delivering care services for young patients. Integrating evidence-based practice in pediatric care not only enhances the quality of care but also reflects a commitment to effective and safe healthcare intervention specific to the needs of pediatric populations (Torres et al., 2024). Knowing the facilitators and barriers that affect the adoption of evidence-based practice in pediatric nursing can help facilitate best practices and improve patient outcomes (Torres et al., 2024). The principle of Collaborating with others is closely linked to this concept of evidence-based practice in pediatric nursing as outlined in the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives 2021 (NMBI, 2021). Collaboration with colleagues, healthcare professionals, patients, and families is necessary to engender a collaborative approach to care delivery, ensure effective communication, and promote the welfare of children for whom registered nurses and midwives are providing care. This paper explores EBP in pediatric nursing and the underpinning role of stakeholders' collaboration in effectively applying evidence-based practice.
Study Overview
In a study titled, "Implementation of Evidence-Based Practice in Pediatric Nursing Care: Facilitators and Barriers," Torres et al. (2024) examines several issues related to or related to EBP, particularly within the context of pediatric nursing care shedding light on the factors influencing the adoption of EBP in this specialized area of healthcare. The authors use a qualitative approach in the study as they seek to elicit the experiences and views of the nurses regarding pediatric care. In this study, the participants included thirty-two nurses who were recruited and split into two groups for focus group discussions in a pediatric unit of a university hospital. The information gathered from these sessions was collected in the form of qualitative data, which was sorted using NVivo software for qualitative data analysis (Torres et al., 2024). Subsequently, the identified themes were subjected to Bardin's three-phase process of qualitative data analysis in order to elicit pertinent themes and patterns.
Results
The research revealed three overarching themes that described the context and nature of EBP in pediatric nursing practice. The first category highlighted the enablers important for EBP implementation, including how the mentors provided coaching, how the organization acknowledged the value of EBP, how they created environments encouraging EBP, and the attitudes and interests of the nursing team (Torres et al., 2024). At the same point, the study revealed that there are major challenges that affect the integration of EBP without any hindrances. Among these challenges were those related to communication and cooperation with other professionals from different teams, work-scheduling issues, commitment to traditional protocols and practices that do not necessarily correspond to best practices in the field of nursing, and an apparent lack of experience in conducting research and applying the results of research within nurs...
