This varies from “mobile phones, compact discs players, computers as well as the internet” with their various effects on our daily lives (Hitachi 2009 1).
The company holds three brands, “Fone Zone, Next Byte, and One Zero” which are displayed in various strategically located outlets. The products are of premium quality with an aim of attaining loyalty from the customers. To attain brand loyalty all the products are customer focused with their propositions being put into consideration. Having been brought into function in 2008, the company” aims at increasing the market share in the “communication, internet and computer markets” (Hitachi 2009 2). For the achievement of the desired goals and objectives of the organization as well as the maintenance of premium branding, high pricing and sustainable innovation is utilized as the major exploration factors (Niles 2008 123).
Assessment of current strategy and the capacity to sustain competitive advantage
The company contains more than 1800 employees which make it to experience hardships in its management of data. This called for the simplification of management as well as outsourcing information from other companies including “Hitachi Data Systems and Corpnet.” The strategic plan for Vita is the expansion of brands available with the expanding telecommunication industry. This is with focus to the long term goals of supplying products and services with sustainable growth to meet the increasing population needs (Vita 2010 1).
With the company working with three brands that are well known by the consumers as well as the administering of private employees data, the group had to look for bets way in the management of storage requirements. This would help to handle the existing problems by the chief operations officer. Also, late in 2008, the company also experienced deadline hindrances in the compliance with the required law. Among the various requirements included the “storage and exchange of structured database” in addition to the “unstructured data” which comprises of “application data, operation systems as we as partner and customer information” (Hitachi 2009 3)
The amount of data that the company stored for the clients was expanding at an alarming rate. In this case, the chief operations officer opted for the storage of data online for approximately seven yeas in areas where they could be easily accessible (Porter 1998 57). Earlier on, the company used to store the data in the local disk, where the servers were fitted with “expansion disks” making it very hard to manage the systems as well as loss of time in accessing the data when needed. To permanently solve the problem, the storage systems were fitted with larger storage units and the old existing ones distributed across various company departments.
This rapid expansion of the company was beyond the management extent and capabilities. The IT department played a major role in the implementation of the advanced storage system which aimed at increasing performance management and sustained expansion. The annual growth of the company was of two digits and the storage space had to be strategically addressed (Hitachi 2009 3).
Submission of tenders was done in a competitive manner. Various storage vendors were examined by the company where a strategic decision on the reduction of expenses related to “costs, business growth, power and cooling” thus providing massive returns was addressed. In addition, this also included the reduction of risks as well as strengthening on disaster recovery (Diamond 2008 135).
With various competitors leaving the tender bid owing to the various needs from the Vita Group, the company approached Hitachi Data System and merged on the provision of data storage. However, Hitachi corporation works hand in had with Corpnet which played a major role in the drafting the components of the tender. In this case, “Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage of 1000 systems containing Brocade routers” was included (Hitachi 2009 4). These forms of systems are of optimum scale and they perform with high efficiency. In addition, the systems are also available in the markets and works in amplifying the features on the high end (Diamond 2008 135).
During implementation, the systems were addressed using various phases. To start with, the existing data had to be secured into the storage area network and the systems merged to form an increased storage space. Virtualization as well as the disaster recovery was also fitted which allowed the company to focus on sustainable future growth with pride (Porter 1998 57).
On the virtual disk space data, Corpnet cold successfully “shut down the server” paving way for installation of the recovery system. After the process was implemented success fully, the back up process could now be carried out with reduced time. Earlier on down time hours which was experienced for more than three hou...
