This project provides you with an opportunity to increase and demonstrate your understanding of ethics and the law. You must write a 4-6 page term paper based on the topic chosen in Week 1 of the course. In addition to the 4-6 pages of the paper itself, you must include a title page and a reference page. Your reference page must be written in APA citation style, Arial or Time New Roman styles, 12-point font. Your paper must be in your own words, representing original work. Paraphrases of others’ work must include attributions to the authors. Limit quotations to an average of no more than 3-5 lines, and use quotations sparingly. It is always better to write the information in your own words than to directly quote. You must have a minimum of 6 outside sources.

Top business executives encounter numerous ethical dilemmas in the process of making decisions two options. Arguably, ethical dilemmas are complicated and, thus, the capability of finding an optimal solution is critical to all the stakeholders. One of the significant challenges in business operations is that top management might lack an ideal solution, which would comply with the set ethical norms. Ethics is one of the fundamental aspects of facilitating effective operation and attainment of set goals. The issue entails the analysis of values and behaviors as either inappropriate or acceptable. Research findings indicate that an organization might encounter numerous challenges in addressing ethical concerns. In the course of business operations, I had directed the IT professional to read the emails of other employees as a security measure of preventing disclosure of a company’s sensitive data. However, I realized it was an ethical concern, which would even affect the employees. One of the significant challenges was deciding on whether or not I should disclose the policy to the employees.
Notably, one of the significant responsibilities of a Chief Information Officer (CIO) is making relevant decisions regarding an organization. The issue of whether or not it is acceptable to read an employee’s email is a significant ethical aspect, which determines the integrity and reliability of the information on the computer systems. The moral dilemma is that the organization might encounter devastating impacts if I fail to read emails and cyber attackers execute their malicious intentions. If the IT professional understands the emails, it would be possible to examine if the employees adhere to the set policies, such as not sending chain emails or any other offensive content. The new technology revolution has influenced changes in most workplaces, especially in workplace management. For instance, top executives have realized the need for monitoring employees to prevent violence, workplace mishaps, lowered productivity, and misuse of the company’s property.
Research findings indicate that enhanced tools and increased risks have resulted in increased monitoring and surveillance. However, the development has influenced ethical concerns on the pressure between employer’s management rights and the privacy of employees. Arguably, both employees and management have concerns about the privacy issues of continuous monitoring and privacy issues. In the current era of proliferation of new forms of technology, every employer monitors the behavior and activities of employees in the workplace setting. Therefore, employees should accept the monitoring case on ethical, professional, ad privacy issues in the workplace setting. The privacy of employees has become one of the debatable issues in the management of employees, especially in the current era of proliferation of technology.
Electronic monitoring involves a computerized analysis, collection, storage, and reporting of employees’ productive activities. One of the core objectives of control is identifying the overall number of working hours among employees and the tasks that they support. West & Bowman (2016) posit that the monitoring involves the use of modern technology to identify the websites, which the employee access. As a consultant, the use of regular monitoring of employee’s emails is effective in observing the activities of the employees and anticipated intentions. However, most employees dislike the tracking of their emails. They consider that as a form of violation of their freedoms and rights. Arguably, most employees loathe the idea of close monitoring of their electronic mails or other activities over modern technology platforms. In most instances, employees argue that having less freedom in the workplace is unacceptable. In my opinion, I believe that the act of monitoring employees is not a restriction of their rights and liberties. The core purpose of the monitoring process is to protect the interests of the company and ensure that employees adhere to all the set standards in the workplace setting.
Privacy is one of the essential aspects of every organization. Therefore, I have a crucial responsibility for controlling the flow of information among employees and protect the company’s sensitive data from public view (West & Bowman, 2016). Notably, I should prevent any form of interference with privacy for the company. I should be committed to enhancing the overall security level of the company’s operations to prevent attacks, which might result in devastating impacts. One of the most effective ways of attaining the set goals is through close monitoring of employee’s emails. The use of the internet, email, and telephone has become an essential requirement in expediting the effective operation of an organization. For that reason, I believe in the need to set effective policies to act as a firewall and protect the essential resources for the organization. Arguably, monitoring of employees’ emails is imperative to enhance the security of customers and employees.
