Introduction
Processors are designed as integrated electronic circuits that perform computations to run a computer. A processor incorporates complex mathematical logic and a control unit that evaluates capability based on the optimal range of instructions or bits, the relative clock speed, and the efficiency in processing wide-ranging instructions at a specific time. The paper compares and contrasts Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Intel processors based on parameters such as cost efficiency, heating, multiprocessing capabilities, and clock speed. It established that the choice of the processor for business computing needs does not matter because both Intel and AMD are susceptible to hardware security vulnerabilities.
Comparing and Contrasting AMD and Intel Processors
Intel and AMD are distinct brands that develop and sell the central processors units (CPUs) and motherboards for personal computers. Both manufacturers’ efforts are geared at developing a high-performing processor at a relatively affordable price. AMD is an American-based manufacturing firm that emphasizes upgrading and advancing future-generation computing experiences. The company manufactures computer-related devices, including but not limited to CPUs, motherboards, microchips, and semiconductors. In the last few decades, AMD has designed Zen-based processors, significantly impacting the global market (Kumar, 2019). AMD has manufactured economic power-thirsty processors, matching overall consumer expectations and augmenting the gaming experience (Byju’s Exam Prep, 2022). Some examples of AMD processors include AMD EPY, AMD Athlon 64, AMD Ryzen, AMD FX-series, AMD Opteron, and AMD Threadripper. On the other hand, Intel, or Integrated Electronics, is a multinational technology firm competing with AMD. Intel has created and cultivated a magnificent brand in the global market through its devices and performance levels. The company produces motherboard chipsets, CPUs, integrated graphics processing units (iGPU), and microprocessors. Intel processors require higher power and consume more battery power in general (Byju’s Exam Prep, 2022). Some examples of Intel processors in the market are Intel Xeon, Intel Core I series, and Intel Core m series. Some of the remarkable differences between Intel and AMD processors are discussed in the table below.
AMD
Intel
It is cost-effective at a higher range.
It is cost-effective at a lower range.
After several hours of usage, its processors remain cool.
Its processors get overheated as soon as they are being used.
It is relatively less efficient compared to Intel.
It is relatively more efficient than AMD.
Its clock speed transcends 5.0 GHz, accompanied by a lot of heat production.
The clock speed transcends 5.0 GHz.
Integrated graphics process unit (iGPU) is found in all AMD series.
Nearly all its cores contain integrated graphics processing unit (iGPU)
Can multi-process up to thresholds of 8 sockets or 128 cores.
Can multi-task up to thresholds of 4 sockets or 28 cores.
Examples: AMD EPYC, AMD Thread ripper, AMD FX-Series, AMD Athlon 64, AMD Ryzen, and AMD Opteron.
Examples: Intel Xeon, Intel Core i series, and Intel Core m series.
In addition, AMD is the second largest microprocessor manufacturer globally, producing units applied in desktop computers designed by the company. Its integrated electronic circuits are designed with 6, 4, or 2 cores. Nevertheless, AMD makes three-core integrated electronic circuits with higher thresholds of capabilities than the dual-core, which cannot meet the market price amount of the quad-core integrated electronic circuits incorporating a 3.6 GHz base clock velocity. AMD integrated electronic circuits can operate a plethora of software commands at the same time compared to the firm’s processors. This is increasingly crucial for business computing, especially when executing graphics-laden tasks, including 3D gaming, rendering, or video editing (Krithika & Keerthan...
