Interview about Satisfaction at Work
Background Information
First, I interviewed Jayden, a 24-years-old male, who is a graduate of Sheridan College with a bachelor’s degree in interaction design. The participant was cooperative, and he answered all the questions I asked him honestly. Jayden is a product designer for a venture capital investment firm who is responsible for identifying problems in his field and solving them. The participant has been working with the venture capital investment firm for three months, and he is satisfied with what he does at the company. He says that his interest in finance and investment will enable him to be a good entrepreneur in the future. Second, as such, his job provides opportunities for career growth and advancement. Third, Jayden’s attitude toward his job and work environment is positive since he is passionate about what he does for the firm. Fourth, his work gives him autonomy and is meaningful to the company. Jayden is satisfied to work for a venture capital investment firm and intends to remain there for an extended period.
Detailed Description of Participant’s Work Environment
First, Jayden’s work environment is outstanding, and he enjoys working in a team of six people. Although the participant is working from home due to COVID-19 restrictions, he says that he likes it. Specifically, the company helped employees to transition from working from the office to home. All workers were given a new laptop, mouse, keyboard, and a cell phone. That way, no one would have an excuse that he or she does not have the necessary tools for working. When it comes to the company work policies, Jayden’s firm does not have strict rules. In other words, employees are allowed to interact so that they can work together. The participant admitted that every time his team members meet, they take about ten minutes to talk about their personal life and other news. On that note, it is clear that workers interact with each other at a personal level, which maintains a strong bond between them. Additionally, one of Jayden’s wishes is for the company to introduce informal meetings where employees would meet and talk about personal things out of the work context. Second, the company that Jayden works for offers opportunities for career growth and advancement. For example, it allows workers to learn while working. For those who take online courses, their tuition fee is reimbursed when they speak to the manager. Jayden has learned various things outside his field of product design, such as business administration and investment.
Third, the positive attitude that the participant has toward his work environment enables him to be passionate about what he does for the company and how he relates with his boss. In particular, it is clear that even though the company does not pay for extra hours, Jayden is comfortable with it. The interviewee said that he sometimes works for 10 hours a day. Additionally, he was frustrated at first to be playing roles that are not under his job responsibility portfolio. However, after some time, the participant understood that whatever he was doing was beneficial to him since he learned new lessons and became better every day. Jayden considers his boss as a friend, and he speaks to him regularly. The individual is not frustrated when he receives feedback from his boss to modify a particular product since he takes it as a lesson to always be the best in his job. Fourth, although the participant encounters challenges in his work, he takes them as lessons and works toward improving them to become the best version of himself. Jayden understands that challenges are inevitable, and what matters a lot is what people learn from them. Notably, having a flexible mindset makes the participant be satisfied with his work environment. For example, he said that working from home is good for him despite the fact that he sometimes gets bored. Jayden’s working environment gives him the autonomy to do things that he likes, which makes his work meaningful. However, working from home for long hours is disadvantageous since the participant’s backaches since he does no...
