Renewable Energy Resource-Technical Approaches to Sustainable Development
Abstract
Renewable energy resources, also known as clean energy originate from the natural procedures that are continually refilled. For instance, the wind or sunlight keeps on shinning even though their availability is highly dependent on weather and time. Furthermore, the world is becoming a universal village due to the increasing demand for energy. It should be taken into account that the necessity for energy and its correlated services has continued to increase in the last few years. Therefore, the use of renewable energy resources will help solve the problem of climate change and, at the same time, meet the goals of sustainability. Moreover, there are some other positive impacts like energy security, social-economic development, among others. Despite all these benefits, there are some challenges associated with renewable energy resources such as increased carbon emission, market failures, and limited raw materials needed for the future deployment of renewable resources. The implementation of renewable energy sources has been challenged by market prices, technological costs, and the political environment. However, through research, innovations, formulation of policies and regulations can promote renewable energy production while mitigating climate change and environmental pollution.
Introduction
In the last few decades, conventional energy sources like natural gas coal, and oil have shown to be highly effective as far as economic growth and progress are concerned. However, due to their likelihood of future and current rapid depletion of conventional energy sources and environmental issues related to them, there is a need to produce environmentally friendly energy. Therefore, to ensure that the world's energy consumption aligns with sustainable goals (Ellabban et al., 2014). Furthermore, environmental protection concerns have increased, which has shifted energy production has shifted its technology into renewable energies. Due to these issues, it is now clear that energy consumption's future relies on technological advancement in renewable energy systems. Therefore, shifting from conventional to renewable energy sources will help humans lessen the release of greenhouse gases. Increasing the supply of renewable energy sources worldwide allows people to substitute carbon-intensive energy sources and reduce global warming significantly. For this reason, there is a need to focus on technical issues in renewable energy sources to maximize its future production while minimizing the impacts on human health and environmental degradation for future generations.
Literature Review
According to Liu et al. (2018), renewable energy has been regarded as new technology; however, it has long been used for lighting and heating. Furthermore, wind power has been used to powerboats and sail in the seas for centuries. Sun's energy has also been used to provide warmth during the day. For the last 500 years or so, the author has highlighted how the humans have turned into cheaper energy resources. Innovation has led to the deployment of less-expensive methods of capturing wind and solar energy. In the U.S, renewable energy sources account for more than one-eighth of the country's power generation (Liu et al., 2018). This expansion in renewable energy is occurring in both small and large scale ranging from rooftop panels to wind farms.
Research by Ellabban et al. (2014) highlights how solar energy is converted from light to electrical energy. Furthermore, it shows how this energy has less negative impacts on the environment. According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the solar energy that falls in one hour can be harnessed and used by humans for a maximum of one year. In the modern world, solar energy is used in several ways, such as heating homes and warm water. Solar farms can generate power to thousand homesteads through mirrors to distillate sunlight across domains of solar cells. Furthermore, solar energy systems do not generate either greenhouse gases or air pollutants.
According to Asumadu-Sarkodie & Owusu (2016), renewable energy sources are natural and involve the insistent flow of energy, which is found in the atmosphere. These include; thru solar energy, geothermal, hydropower, and wind energy. The use of renewable sources of energy will limit the extreme impacts of climate change. Additionally, investing in renewable energy can significantly help mitigate the challenge of energy security around the world.
According to research conducted by Shinn (2019), the use of biological mechanisms such as plants and animal products to generate energy has been a general cause of worry in recent years. The reason is because of the debate on whether food products can be used to produce energy while places in the world need food aid. Approximately 98% of anthropoid food is gotten through the extraterrestrial environment, while about 2% is obtained from the aquatic environment (Shinn 2019). Furthermore, most of the available land which is suitable for biomass production is already in use. However, the study proposes that proper management of biological energy production can positively affect the environment through enhanced biodiversity.
Importance of Renewable Energy
Using renewable energy is one of the most critical decisions people can take to reduce carbon emissions on the environment. Production of electricity as a greenhouse gas source reduces the buildup of harmful smog and toxic gases in air and war. In the United States, electricity production is one of the leading causes of industrial pollution. Electricity comes from non- renewable power plants, nuclear and coal. Producing energy from these sources causes great harm to the environment by polluting water, land, and water. Therefore renewable energy sources can be used to produce electricity with fewer environmental effects. This will reduce the emission of carbon monoxide in the atmosphere.
Renewable energy originates from natural resources that refill themselves over a particular period without depleting the resources of the earth. These resources have a lot of benefits because they cause little harm to the environment. Renewable energy is vital to the economy because it assists in the conservation of a country's natural resources. Additionally, renewable energy is more labor-intensive. For example, renewable...
