As of today, the relationship between the our country and that of Zimbabwe poses a lot of advantages when it especially when it comes to trade and counter-terrorist efforts. However, in light of the recent happenings with the country’s politics – particularly the resignation of former President Robert Mugabe – this dynamics could prove to be volatile especially if we don’t practice a sense of precaution. The current Interim President of the country is Emmerson Mnangagwa, which comes from the same party as that of Mugabe. Putting this into consideration, it could be safely assumed that the former policies and platforms that Mugabe forwarded would continue. However, this is not considering yet, the increasing public pressure towards Mnangagwa, to provide an administration that is different from that of his predecessor. Nevertheless, looking at the policy platforms that he discussed during his candidacy it could be safely assumed that US-Zimbabwe relations when it comes to trade would still flourish, while that related to counter-terrorism efforts would also continue due to the fact that he was once a faithful lieutenant of Mugabe.
