As such the unintended health impacts of the Preventing Gender-Based Violence: The Health Perspective policy on South Asian immigrant women and indigenous women in Canada include possible increased access to support services which has lacked for many years and increased community empowerment. With the implementation of the policy, there is a possible improvement in access to support services by South Asian women and indigenous women in Canada. The lack of policy has over the years made it hard for victims and survivors of gender-based violence to seek help. With the policy, there are entry points which include community centers, health clinics, and other safe spaces that make it possible for immigrant women to seek support. Secondly, through the policy, there is increased community empowerment. The policy seeks to empower the communities by running awareness drives about gender-based violence through community-led initiatives, with the sole goal of addressing the problem, Community empowerment contributes to an immediate sense of urgency and resilience among affected women, potentially enhancing their well-being. Negative Impacts The policy has some unintended negative impacts on the affected community of women. First, it reinforces stigmatization. The implementation of the policy may potentially reinforce some existing discrimination and stigma faced by South Asian immigrants and other indigenous women. Reinforced stigmatization and discrimination, means that women may reluctantly fail to report or seek help whenever they encounter cases of gender-based violence for fear of discrimination, thus increasing health risks.
