Research Paper Instructions:

The purposes of this Synthesis Paper Assignment are to:

*Demonstrate proper use of the current APA format in a term paper.

*Demonstrate proper use of one of the research methods studied in this course-specifically, the case study.

*Reflect on what you have learned in this course PSYC 255_(B01) and write about it.

*Reflect on the course content as critiqued from a biblical, Christian perspective and write about it.

Using a case study report approach, write 4-8 pages of a research-based report using yourself as the research subject by answering these three assigned research questions:

*What have you learned about research at an introductory level?

*How do you evaluate or critique this from a biblical, Christian perspective?

*Describe the process you, the researcher, went through with this Synthesis Paper.

*Create an appropriate heading for each of these questions. Do not copy the questions above to use the wording for your headings

*These three questions above are deliberately not written as Level One headings in current APA formatting the way they appear above, however, a good way to organize your document would be to use these three ideas as appropriately written Level One headings.

*Add additional levels of headings as appropriate throughout the document to organize your content.

*Your paper must include a properly formatted title page for a STUDENT PAPER, 4 to 8 pages of content with correct current APA formatting throughout, including proper citations and levels of headings, and a reference page. This title and reference pages are in addition to the assigned 4 to 8 pages of content.

*Maintain consistency between your citations and reference page. Your paper must include at least 4 references to sufficiently support your paper.

*Required references include your Introduction to Research textbook and the Publication Manual, and at least two additional scholarly references. You may also include additional content-related sources you would like to include that are part of what you learned in this course this term.

*Remember, use current APA format and paper elements for a STUDENT PAPER throughout (including your title page, appropriate vocabulary and sentence introductory statement, in-text citations page numbers, levels of headings throughout the document, a conclusion statement, and consistency between your in-text citations and references).

*However remember that you are writing a case study report; you are merely writing personal reflections as such.

*Your answer will be unlike anyone else's and that is what is expected. Be sure to consult your Publication Manual for proper formatting and for your in-text citations and references for these other sources.

*Think about what you have learned, reflect, synthesis, and write that synthesized reflection into a case study report about you.

Section 2.2 Student Paper Required Element, 2.3 Student Title Page, 2.4 Title Format, 2.5 Author Name. Write the byline on the title page after the paper title. Include one blank double-space line between the paper title and the byline. Follow these guidelines for byline formatting: See Table 2.2 for examples of how to set up author bylines and affiliations, 2.6 Author Affiliation. Abide by these guidelines when presenting affiliations:*Academic affiliations should include the name of any department or division and the name of the institution, separated by a comma.*Nonacademic institutional affiliations, 2.7 Author Note-STUDENT PAPERS do not typically include an author note, First Paragraph: ORCID iDs.2.8 Running Head, 2.9 Abstract, 2.10 Keywords, 2.11 Text (Body) Chapters 8 and 9, 2.12 Reference List, 2.14 Appendices 'Student Paper's' can include an appendix, 2.15 Supplemental Materials 'Supplemental materials to a journal article are published online only, these materials enrich readers' experience and understanding of the content of the article-online-only publication tends to be appropriate for materials that are more useful when available as downloadable files and for materials that are not easily presented in print. Student papers do not typically include supplemental materials. Some examples of content provided as supplemental materials are:video clips, audio clips, or animations*lengthy computer code*details of mathematical or computational models*oversized tables, detailed intervention protocols, expanded methodology descriptions, colo figures or other images (see section 7.26), printable templates and worksheets, data files(generated using SPSS or other software)*Supplemental materials should include enough information to make their content interpretable when accompanied by the published text. Also keep in mind accessibility guidelines as they pertain to online or interactive materials to ensure that your files are not only openable but also accessible to all readers. Complete data sets should be made available, as appropriate, in online repositories or archives' (see section 10.9 for the reference format) or in supplemental materials. See section 1.14 and 1.15 for more on data retention and sharing. Because this content may be useful to the field, APA and many other publishers make it possible to provide supplemental materials to a wide audience by posting them online and placing a link with the published article. These files link appendices than become part of the primary journal record and cannot be augmented, altered, or deleted. For APA journals, a link to the supplemental materials appears in the published article and leads readers to a landing page that includes a bibliographic citation, a link to the published article, and a context statement and link for each supplemental file (see example of a landing page at https://on(dot)apa(dot)org/2CmDGd6), other journals may include links in the article that directly open the supplemental files.2.16 Importance of Format, 2.17, 2.18, 2.22 Margins, 2.23, 2.24, 2.25, 2.26, 2.27.

Synthesis Paper Assignment
Introduction
This synthesis paper will demonstrate my understanding of the research methods covered in the PSYC 255 (B01) course. It will also deliberate on the course content as appraised from a biblical Christian viewpoint and the process I went through in the synthesis paper. The body of this essay will comprise three sections: the case study report approach will be employed to address the three sections in turn.
Body
Improved Understanding of Research Procedures, Techniques, and Methods in Psychology Research
The eight weeks of the PSYC 255 (B01) course taught me the fundamentals of research critical in psychology study. Some of the areas I gained a comprehensive understanding of include the research processes of identifying a research problem, defining the variable, developing a hypothesis, reviewing current knowledge on the subject, selecting an appropriate research design, performing the study, as well as drawing conclusions. The course was instrumental in developing my ability to pick a research problem from commonly held beliefs, psychology literature, and even everyday problems. It helped me appreciate the need to control what I measure by defining the operational variables in any psychology study. In addition to learning the importance of holding all variables constant, I acquired an in-depth understanding of how to generate testable hypotheses that predict how the identified variables relate to one another. The course highlighted the need to conduct background research on the research topic to provide a firmer foundation for the developed hypotheses.
Moreover, I learned that the process of conducting a literature review ought to include: a clear definition of the problem, a concise summary of previous investigations and the current state of the research, and a brief summary of existing connections, gaps, and discrepancies in the literature, as well as a suggestion of the next steps to improve existing literature (American Psychological Association, 2020: pg. 4). One of the most important things I gained from the course was how to develop an appropriate experimental study for my psychology study. I learned that there are two research methods, experimental and non-experimental: the former support causal conclusions, unlike the latter, which is more appropriate to psychology studies. Under the experimental research category, I gained a comprehensive grasp of the two main ways of developing an experiment, between-subjects, and within-subjects, over and above the advantages and disadvantages of each. I also discovered the three main non-experimental research types: observational, correlational, and cross-sectional.
Another critical facet of psychology research I learned from the PSYC 255 (B01) course relates to selecting and assigning participants. I gained an understanding of the need to standardize all psychology experiments by ensuring that the participants are equally treated and generally represent the entire study population. Here, I was exposed to several different sampling techniques, including the simple and stratified random sampling methods. Tied to this research process is ensuring internal validity by establishing proper controls and understanding the threats to rigorous research. In addition to heightening my understanding of the process of conducting a psychology study, the PSYC 255 (B01) course helped me appreciate the equally critical practical considerations involved. For instance, the course materials covered ethical issues in psychology studies, including informed consent, the...
