Hate Crimes in the US
The article Ten Ways to Fight Hate by Southern Poverty Centre Website acknowledges that the levels of hate crime in the US have tremendously increased. This has been engineered by the fact that the US elected a president who openly admits that he is a racist and anti-Muslim. The article promotes their argument by highlighting several incidences that have occurred across the US that result from prejudice. It is notable that many of the victims suffer in silence. So many cases have not been reported yet. However, there is a strong opposition to hate crimes across the US, and people have come up in crowds to fight for the rights of all the people despite their ethnic, racial, religious backgrounds among others.
The article highlights ten ways through which hate crimes can be fought in the US. The ten ways of fighting hate include the following; act, joining forces, offering support to the victims of hate, speaking up, self-knowledge about hate crimes, and creating an alternative. The list continues, and it mentions pressuring leaders, staying engaged, teaching acceptance and digging deeper into the matter.

My neighbor, who is a black American, was once harassed by the same force of law as they claimed that he was a petty thief. They had no evidence, or they hadn't witnessed but the fact that he was black, he ‘looked like a thief' to them. It was so humiliating to my neighbor, and their actions disgusted me. Now that I have learnt what I can do to fight hate, I will take action.
After reviewing the article, I became more determined to fight hate crimes. The article influenced my perception such that I know action or change begins by me. Earlier on, I thought it was a responsibility of the police and the FBI, but I now know it is everyone's' responsibility to stop hate crimes. No one chose to be who they are. They...
