The article is an investigative report on the connection between inequality and health in both poor and rich countries. The study incorporated both theoretical and empirical approaches in the collection and analysis of data. The author has used much of the article in illustrating the link between income and health. Several theoretical connections between inequality and health are deeply discussed. These include the effects of income on investments in health and education, the relationship between nutrition and earnings at low levels of income, and the possible negative effects of inequality on the ability of the political process to deliver public services. According to the author, evolutionary history drives human beings towards fairness while unequal environment deprives of people some vital elements of life. In this perspective, relative deprivation causes ill health. It is further argued that inequality has no effect on health conditional on income within groups. However, both income inequality and average income influence health across groups.
The author suggests that inequality can be as a result of ill health. Some forms of income inequalities exist because earnings cannot be completely insured against ill health in an attempt to reduce income inequalities....
