The organization must continuously improve the efficiency of the total quality management system when implementing it through the use of the quality policy, the quality objectives, the results of the audits, data analysis, while considering quality and productivity in projects (Örgün et al., 2018). Models such as Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMi) are useful in software processes management and assessing quality (Pedroso & Oliveira, 2013). The CMMI eliminates inconsistencies, which reduces the cost of implementing process improvement and helps establish guidelines in projects (Silva et al., 2015). CMMi, is an established standard which can be a starting point for adopting process improvement models since CMMi can be tailored for different organizations (Chevers et al., 2017) The research objective is to compare the audit performance before and after total quality management implementation in IT, and implications for improving quality performance and project management practices.

The research question/hypothesis:

• What models of total quality management are recommended for growing information technology consulting firms? And how has it affected their auditing process?

• The model that the research question will use is: For software development CMMi is a well established model.

Methodology

Data will be gathered by means of online surveys to IS professionals, mostly the project managers and analysts to evaluate audit performance before and after the total quality management. The CMMI framework is used to gauge quality outcomes, the evaluation and improvement of processes. Questionnaires will first be dispatched to a pilot group of four people, and this will help to determine whether the questionnaire is clear and facilitates completion of the survey later on. The questionnaires are appropriate to identify changes and the effectiveness of quality management in the workplace since the quality assurance program will be implemented. Evaluation, measurement and the audit performance indicators are linked and help to determine whether there are changes after the implementation of total quality management (Cai & Jun, 2018). It is necessary to determine how to plan the implementation of the quality management system and how this is linked to the audit performance (Acebes et al., 2018).

Menezes, Gusmão & Moura (2018) looked into the risk factors affecting software development projects and there is a need to improve risk management practice to enhance performance. The management
