For successful organizational leadership and management in the modern society characterized by advanced knowledge of 21st century in the global economy, businesses must ensure the enhancement of practical skills and knowledge in their operations (Lavie, 2011).
Business development in the 21st century requires proficient leadership and management especially with regards to making quick and operative decisions. In this century, the world is experiencing a drastic change with a dramatic revolution in technology and industrialization. Technology evolvement involves the use of computer software, advanced information technologies, communication, and multimedia technologies. The developmental process of the 21st century is expected to run up to the year 2100 with great prospective in global leadership and management development. The emergent of new models of leadership and management is resulting in drastic changes across the world. In this 21st century, the leadership styles are also changing to accommodate the future transformation of the system (Baker, 2009). Globalization occurs with integration in social, political, economic, cultural, and technological aspects of development (Luthans & Doh, 2015). Increase in economic integration across the world accommodates negotiations and execution of new global trade and investment agreements. This results in the creation of new opportunities and challenges, allowing the government and organizations to enhance business transactions across national boundaries on an unprecedented scale (Global Economic, 2013). Among the established roles for leaders include bringing people to new horizons, motivation, recognizing good work done, addressing economic ambiguities, and setting new standards among other roles. Successful global leaders are required to have these skills, which mainly involve guiding and motivating team members in an extremely visible manner (Luthans & Doh, 2015). The major focus of organizational leaders is to get the right people for the right positions and make money while meeting the secondary objective of a business.
Despite the variation in managerial behavior, managers tend to follow the fundamental objectives and rules of a company. Leaders need to ensure the stability of an organization or company, even after experiencing inevitable transformation at both organizational and global perspectives (Luthans & Doh, 2015). Managers take care of the team members and all business stakeholders, addressing complexities, and feeding facts as they are focusing on financial credibility and ensuring everything is done in the right way. There are minimal changes and transformations in the managerial roles in the 21st century. Managers are experiencing the same challenges as before and are also expected to solve them in similar approaches as used in the 20th century (Zahra, 2014). The difference in the management approaches is, however, affected by organizational culture. Spatial diversity also affects managerial practices of a manager, thus influencing the entire leadership approaches. Cultural stability within the society can result in similar leadership approach over a long period of time.
Improvement of leadership and management skills requires the implementation of educational needs. Gaining leadership and managerial roles creates educational needs. Educational improvement of a manager or leader helps in the improvement of organizational performance. Appropriate and continuous training among leaders and employees ensures that they are prepared for projected changes in the system at both the organizations and global level. Training is an effective way of tapping the full potential of employees in an organization (Luthans & Doh, 2015)
