The research sought to establish the different levels of comfortability that Americans had insofar as unsolicited or ethically questionable government monitoring of individual communication is concerned (Olmstead, 2017). This served as the core basis of the study and informed all the decisions taken by the researchers with regard to the study. The respondents that participated in this research were American adult men and women of diverse age groups, levels of education, and political affiliations. One of the possible research questions answered by the information in this article is: Do you think the government secretly monitors you, and other Americans, through the surveillance of personal phone and email communications? Research The article utilized a content analysis research methodology to descriptively assess the public perceptions of Americans with respect to government surveillance. To provide reliability and credibility to the article, the researcher analyzed the polling results of related surveys conducted by the Pew Research Center. In order to develop a coherent article with relevant information answering the core research question, the researchers only assessed survey studies where the respondents were either questioned on issues related to the research question (Rainie & Madden, 2015). Similarly, it is worth noting that the researchers only relied on studies where the respondents fit all the diversity criteria that they had established. This ensured that all the studies used were surveys where the respondents were adult American men and women from different age groups, with different political inclinations, and had diverse levels of education ranging from high school diplomas to college graduate degrees (Olmstead, 2017).
