Moral Criticisms of the Free Market
I agree with Ewart’s concept in the article “Moral Criticism of the Market,” where he addresses religious critics of the free market. Ewart acknowledges various challenges in the free market, such as materialism and selfishness in the economy. However, he argues that the free market enables people to chase their goals without forcing them to focus on their needs. Since individuals in a free market are never forced to pursue their needs, they can avoid being selfish or mean to others. Also, Ewart states that a free market does not allow people to avoid selfishness, but it allows them to create the maximum wealth necessary for them (Storr & Choi, 2019).
