A research question/title
With the growth and adoption of computers English has become dominant in the virtual world as computers tend to be English oriented. Even the vocabulary and most programs are first developed using English instructions. The paper will look at the use of English in social media sites and specifically Facebook. The dominance of the English language has also influenced the way English is taught and those learning. Since the internet is a platform that allows different users to interact, the teachers can rely on the internet to facilitate English learning.
Research aim(s)
People prefer conversing, reading and writing in a language that they can understand, and with the advent of the internet, English has dominated the virtual world. The paper looks at the reason as to why English is the dominant language in Facebook and the factors influence language preference among Facebook users. Mohamed & Omer (2016) reviewed internet use of English among the English language teachers in Arab countries and considered factors that influenced their choice of language. English is one of the most popular foreign languages outside the Anglo-American countries, and just as English second language learners learn English language skills they are likely to use Facebook to enhance this. As such, the paper will also explore how the use of Facebook affect teaching the language, and the likelihood that other languages will be as dominant as English.
