Discussion Overview:
This discussion will really help you dive into the course and develop some key skills while providing an overview of concepts that you will apply throughout the remainder of the assignments.
First, you will determine the difference among research, evidence based practice (EBP) and quality improvement. Then you will integrate how you use these 3 concepts in practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN). As you begin to apply these concepts into your APN role, you will need to know the correct process. Therefore, review the steps of research so that you can better apply those steps to your development and appraisals of quantitative and qualitative literature in remaining assignments. The steps will guide you and serve as a foundation to every other part of the appraisal and application process for implementing EBP into practice.
One of the biggest skills needed in this course is actually performing a successful library search of terms. So in this discussion you will evaluate and compare the difference in results when searching through 2 different databases. After determining how the various databases work and see how one may produce better results for certain topics than the other selected database, you can think about how you would apply that info. in an EBP model.
There are a lot of EBP models that a person or facility may choose to use. Reviewing these models will allow you to identify where you are in the process of a research problem and what steps are next. You will be using various stages of these models in this course to discover and appraise evidence to support a phenomenon of interest. If you don't use each of the steps of the research process, you may find that your ability to change practice or use the best EBP in practice fails or may not yield the results intended.
As you get started be sure to keep the following in mind:
1. Write your posts in a Microsoft Word document and save it to 2 different sources. Information is often lost and computers crash, so don't get caught without a copy of your own work.
2. Copy and paste your initial post directly into the forum.
3. Use the edit tools within the forum to help you with centering titles, headings, etc.
4. Be aware that TABS do not always work in the forum area, so if your paragraphs and references do not indent correctly, faculty are aware of this issue.
5. No title page is needed.
6. Submit your paper to turnitin and review the report. Make any necessary changes to the initial post and resubmit (as needed) to turnitin. Re-submission to turnitin is not required, but encouraged if your report shows high similarity.
7. Post your cross posts and peer posts by the due dates.
Forum Discussion: Initial Post
1. Introduction: Include an introduction and a thesis statement at the end of a brief introductory paragraph that is no longer than 1 sentence summarizing the purpose of the paper. / 1 point
2. Concepts: Differentiate among: research, Evidence Based Practice (EBP), and Quality Improvement. /2 points
3. Value: Describe how an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) implements EBP and Quality Improvement into practice? /1 points.
4. Implementation: Describe the process used once a topic is selected by identifying next steps in EBP (Polit and Beck Ch. 2; Mateo/Foreman, Ch. 1-2) /2 points
5. Topic Search: Search a topic using 2 different databases, complete and insert a table into your forum discussion (as demonstrated below) with the following information: databases used, search terms, results (how many articles you found), what MeSH or Boolean operators, filters or limits you used (table). Then, summarize what you learned using these 2 different databases (1-3 sentences or short paragraph). /3 points (see Ch. 2 in Mateo/Foreman and Library keynotes).

Initial Post References: you should include a minimum of 2 peer reviewed references in addition to your textbooks in the initial post. The post should be a minimum of 750.
8. Turnitin: Submit your initial post to turnitin by the due date/time and review the report. You have the opportunity to re-submit as needed. Make any necessary changes to your initial post. You do not have to submit your cross posts to turnitin.
Initial Post References: you should include a minimum of 2 peer reviewed references in addition to your textbooks in the initial post. The post should be a minimum of 750 words.
9. Substantial cross posts to a minimum of two (2) other students. The cross posts provide new or supplemental information to the original posting or raise additional areas for discussion. New or additional peer reviewed references should be cited in each cross post. 1.5 / 1.5 points Each cross post should be a minimum of 250.
10. Peer to Peer Posts: Students demonstrate active engagement in the discussion by responding to cross posts from their peers to their initial posting. References are not required for these responses. The key to this section is to demonstrate active engagement in the discussion through your interaction with your peers- watch for posts from your classmates and acknowledge their posting. 1.5 /1.5 points
11. Deductions: A lack of scholarship point deduction (up to 20% of the total point value of the assignment) will be applied to address deficiencies such as a lack of clarity and conciseness in writing, grammatical and spelling errors, exceeding the prescribed word limit, failure to follow assignment instructions, APA errors, and poor overall writing skills. For this assignment a maximum of 3 points can be deducted. The amount of the deduction will be at the discretion of the faculty grading the assignment.

Evidence Based Practice (EBP) in nursing
Name
Institution

Introduction
The concept of evidence-based practice focuses on using the best clinical scientific evidence available to make decisions that improve patient care and quality of care. Besides using the evidence, it is necessary for the health professionals to incorporate the clinical judgment and skills, and this extends to patient preferences and available resources (Schaefer & Welton, 2018). Even when health practitioners do not have a lot clinical practice, they can make date decisions by taking into consideration methods in clinical practice independent of theoretical inclinations. The research question of whether topic is purposeful and intentionally hourly rounding reduces patient fall rates and improves patient safety is one that can be analyzed using the different research models.
Evidence Based Practice (EBP), and Quality Improvement
Research helps build evidence for nursing practice and involves systemic investigation to identify relevant materials, sources data and information in studies to probe and establish facts. This ensures that there is high-quality evidence to make conclusions. Evidence-Based Practice is based on evidence and any decision about the intervention to be carried out and the most appropriate intervention is chosen. The evidence suggests that the identified interventions have worked in the past and evidence is powerful compared to opinion that is not supported by past research. Quality improvement in nursing practice reflects the systematic and continuous actions to improve care and performance in health care.
Value:
EBP and Quality improvement guide in implementing clinical practices and assessing the need for change. After acquiring evidence, there is appraisal and application of the evidence to a scenario and only the applicable evidence is used. This helps to implement findings, after implementing EBP and the evidence there is focus on improving health outcomes. Nurses are expected to have ability and competencies associated with nursing practice to make judgments and clinical decisions using the scientific evidence to achieve the desired outcome.
Implementation
When there is adequate evidence this is a starting point to integrate the evidence in intervention, if the evidence is contradictor there is a thorough research to determine the strength of the evidence. When better evidence is identified this improves the credibility of the intervention. At the same time, there is a need to evaluate the actions or decisions to determine how well the EBP performed (Butler, Hall & Copnell, 2016). The best evidence available is used to implement a practice innovation. When evaluating the evidence and performance, this may produce new evidence relevant to answer the clinical question. Both practical experience and theoretical knowledge are required to improve the quality of care and implement innovative solutions.
