Our initial question specifically pointed out retail and foodservice, however, the intent was to determine if people in face to face positions, across any industry, feel less concerned with their role in cybersecurity. This population may be the most vulnerable despite their ignorance or lack of knowledge on their role in the prevalence of cybersecurity issues. The people violating the laws could probably disguise themselves into clients to get the attention of the teams serving in the face to face positions. The fact raises attention for everyone, including the community at large to ensure the eradication of cybersecurity risks (Asllani, White & Ettkin, 2013). This stance is a significant threat to cybersecurity and the people working in such positions ought to understand and play their roles as desired to avoid any upcoming issues in their respective industries of operation.
While the responses, in general, were limited, and even more so the responses from retail employees, the percentage of respondents working face to face with customers on a daily basis was reported to include 34.8% who strongly agreed and 17.4% who agreed. Combined, that is a total of 12 out of 23 respondents who work daily with customers face to face. Knowing that almost half of the working population indulges in a face to face interactions challenges the demographic to establish and play their distinct roles in cybersecurity (Assante & Tobey 2011). Although they might not be in the position to detect and prevent the occurrence of some actions, they should always be on the lookout to ensure control of cybersecurity in their various industries of operation.
Of the 23 respondents, 13 or 56.5% strongly agreed, and 5 or 21.7% agreed that they work with a digital device daily. This aspect raises the chances of fraud and issues like cyberbullying in the industry. While the workers may know their job and how to operate the digital devices, frauds work ahead of them and always have the required updates on any innovations. The people working with digital devices must know, analyze, and understand their role in cybersecurity considering their positions and the tools they use at work (Asllani, White & Ettkin, 2013). The problem has even raised the attention of governments in countries like the United States to encourage organizations to equip their workers with the desirable knowledge of the situation (McDuffie, & Piotrowski, 2014). This engagement will aid in preventing not only current but also future risks.
Of the 23 respondents, only 17.4% or 4 people strongly agreed, and 8.7% or 2 people agreed, that their behaviors are the biggest cybersecurity risk to their organization. Although the individuals may not agree to the stated or known facts on their position in cybersecurity, they should understand that the biggest risk in the issue surrounds their operations at work. Thus, they can dis...
