The American Civil War
A civil war refers to any war that occurs between organized groups of people of the same country in which both groups try to outdo the other and eventually take control of the country. Civil wars have occurred in many countries, but the most outstanding one is the American Civil War which occurred between 1861 and 1865 (Selcer, 2014). This war was mainly caused by the issues of differences and questions regarding constitutional section about slavery, which arose from the amended constitution. Although the civil war resulted into death and injuring of many people, it resulted in the defeat of the Southern Confederacy. Thus the constitution was amended again (Reid, 2014). The amending of the constitution resulted in the abolishment of slavery institutions. Ultimately, the United States was redefined as one conjoined country rather than a collection of many independent states which were loosely attached. Numerous reasons caused the American Civil War and it involved several battles and weapons as well as casualties leading to the reconstruction and birth of a new nation as will discussed in this paper.
According to Reid (2014), the American civil war was brought about for several reasons. For instance States’ Rights, Slavery in America, Underground Railroad and Dred Scot’s Decision among others. All the causes of the civil war had cropped up from the rising industrialization in the North and the farming in the South. The war involved more than fifty mainland fights and more than ten thousand battle encounters besides the many military actions that aided the conflict. Reid (2014) confirms that the battle of Bull Run was the first battle while Appomattox Courthouse was the last battle. Besides the two there were other main battles which included the battle of Fredericksburg, Petersburg, Chickamauga, Antietam, Vicksburg, Shiloh, Atlanta, and the seven days battle.
Selcer (2014) explicates that, several hundred generals were hired to work in the American union and Confederate armies. These Generals were very instrumental in the civil war since they controlled the troops during battles which would determine the results of the war. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson are among the most prominent generals. The civil war also engaged two major armies namely, the Confederate Army and the Union Army. However, there were other prominent armies within each of them, for instance, the Potomac army and the Northern Virginia army. Afterward, from April 1861 to April 1865; many troops comprised of more than one million soldiers joined the civil war. However, not many of them survived the course of the war since they died. Their deaths were attributed to diseases and wounds and drug addiction.
Moreover, some died when in the line of duty while others were killed because of leaving the service
Agreeing with Forbes (2013) the civil war was a mission for all people regardless of their ethnic groups or gender.  Everyone participated and played his or her role at his or her level best. For example, African Americans played an integral role in determining the outcome of the war. More than one hundred and seventy thousand African Americans worked in the Union army; working particularly in the Navy as well as executing other support roles.
Similarly, African Americans served as slaves in the Confederacy (Forbes, 2013). Additionally, both men and women took varying roes but most importantly, the women assumed the role of role of authors, nurses, civil rights advocates as well as abolitionists. Examples of prominent women who took part in this war are Louisa May Alcott, Clara Barton, and Harriet Beecher Stowe.
The battles of the war were aided by weapons (Selcer, 2014). These were the tools of war used at that time. They played a paramount role in determining the outcome of the battle. The main weapons used were firearms, swords, cannon and Minie Ball. These tools were very efficient although better results were yielded when the muskets, rifle, and artillery were incorporated in the fights. The civil war took place in three main theaters namely, the Eastern Theater, Lower Seaboard Theater and the Western Theater (Selcer, 2014). The Eastern Theater was composed of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington, D.C., West Virginia, the North Carolina’s coast and Virginia. On the other hand, the Western Theater arose from Alleghenies’ west and extended to the Mississippi River; however, it was also comprised of the inner part of Carolinas, Florida, and Georgia. War events that took place far from the west ensued in the Far West and Trans-Mississippi Theater.
