Workplace Violence Intervention Program
Hi! This week is a continuation of the previous weeks regarding workplace violence against nurses in the acute care setting (i.e. hospitals, etc.).
I have attached the rubric for this section, instructions from the syllabus, and have made a combination of sections A, B, and C that were completed -- just in case you would like a reference altogether in one document.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again!
Section D: Solution Description
Write a paper of 500-750 words (not including the title page and reference list) for your proposed evidence-based practice project solution.
Address the following criteria:
• Proposed Solution: Describe the proposed solution (or intervention) for the problem and the way(s) in which it is consistent with current evidence. Heavily reference and provide substantial evidence for your solution or intervention. Consider if the intervention may be unrealistic in your setting, too costly, or there is a lack of appropriate training available to deliver the intervention. If the intervention is unrealistic, you may need to go back and make changes to your PICOT before continuing.
• Organization Culture: Explain the way(s) in which the proposed solution is consistent with the organization or community culture and resources.
• Expected Outcomes: Explain the expected outcomes of the project. The outcomes should flow from the PICOT. • Method/s to Achieve Outcomes: Develop an outline of how the outcomes will be achieved. List any specific barriers that will need to be assessed and eliminated. Make sure to mention any assumptions or limitations that may need to be addressed.
• Outcome Impact: Describe the impact the outcomes will have on one or all of the following indicators: quality care improvement, patient-centered quality care, efficiency of processes, environmental changes, and/or professional expertise.

Feasibility of Intervention
The workplace violence intervention (WVI) program can be challenging to implement due to barriers requiring multidisciplinary action and comprehensive training for the researchers. According to Blando et al. (2015), some barriers include the management’s accountability and an enforced social work system. The training for the implementation needs to be funded and supervised by an expert to ensure the program's success. Nevertheless, Gates et al. (2011) also supported the feasibility of implementing WVI. However, they used the intervention in the emergency department setting only.
Consistency with Culture
Team STEPPS, a highly organized group of UCSD Health, focuses on teamwork and safety culture to ensure the proper implementation of the intervention. The UCSD Health aims to protect all of its stakeholders, including the nursing staff and patients, by providing a secure environment. Additionally, the nurses are essential members of the UCSD Health system, as proven by their Magnet Status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Therefore, caring for their safety in the workplace is vital in maintaining this status (UCSD Health, n.d.).
Expected Outcomes
Population
The nurses suffer physically, emotionally, socially, and psychologically after violent or abusive events in the workplace. They can suffer a temporary or permanent disability that hinders them from functioning correctly in the workplace or society (Sharma & Sharma, 2016). For this study, it is expected that through the WVI program, workplace violence against nurses shall, if not eradicated, maintained to a minimum through proper assessment and education of symptoms of abuse and strategies to prevent these occurrences.
Intervention
The NIOSH Violence Prevention for Nurses online training program is expected to curb the violent incidences against nurses in the acute care setting. This program, which shall be implemented via the Team STEPPs, has been proven to improve risk identification by recognizing early aggressive behavioral episodes, workplace control, and improved communication among staff (Hartley et al., 2019). It is crucial to include pre-, during, and post-intervention assessments of all the factors because many programs fail to do the constant assessment, leading to failed attempts (Arbury et al., 2017).
Comparison
The comparison shall be made from the previous data on violence before the implementation of the WVI program. Based on Arnetz et al.'s (2018) data, it is expected that there will be a higher incidence of violence or abuse without an intervention compared to when there is a WVI program. The lack of any form of intervention encourages the patients, who are the primary offenders, to continue their abusive behaviors and violent actions against the nurses.
Outcome
The nurses are expected to enhance their behavioral management skills in managing a hostile situation after a year of intervention. According to Pereira et al. (2019), this is achievable through proper education and monitoring of organizational changes, leading to imp...
