It is important to develop nursing standards of practice as these standards are important in recognition and appreciation of the nursing profession. The American Nurses Association (ANA) is the entity responsible for developing the generally applicable nursing standards of practice which guide the nursing professionals (Harper & Maloney, 2016). However, there are different associations that are responsible for developing scope and standards of practices for nurses in various nursing specialties. The responsible association has to first form a task force that comes up with new information or revise existing standards and writes a document based on the new information (Mezey, Bickford, Schumann, Mariano, Handberg, & Sutermaster, 2007). The task force then issues the documents to the ANA committee that is responsible for nursing practice standards. The committee then reviews the documents submitted to ensure the contents are in line with the criteria issued by the ANA Congress on Nursing Practice (Mezey, Bickford, Schumann, Mariano, Handberg, & Sutermaster, 2007).
