Healing in Modern Nursing Name Institution Course Date Healing in Modern Nursing The earlier parts of this paper have looked at the healing concept as it is perceived from the spiritual perspective. Well, it is the absence of disease or a negative aspect in the life of an individual. There is also another perspective of healing as it applies in the modern nursing where health can be defined as the absence of disease, or being free from any form of pain. This means that the healing process is aimed at ensuring that the people recover the wholeness of their bodies, mind or emotions. All the researches that have been covered in this study so far have it that the methods applied as curative measures are aimed at eliminating any form of pain from the people or any kind of a condition that is described as out of the ordinary. This further asserts the definition of health, indicating that it is a situation where the body is in its wholesomeness. This is mainly because health is a basic factor in the lives of people. There are definite ways of measuring the physical healing. However, spiritual healing is not as easy to assess. As such, even as this paper seeks to identify the various ways through which spiritual healing occurs there is the need for an assessment tool. The FICA tool as suggested by Bonemann et all (2010) has this in perspective. The tool looks at the faith of an individual which are the beliefs and meaning that one attaches to the healing. The importance of this belief is also considered, as well as the community in which the individual lives. It looks at whether the community is supportive of the individual`s beliefs. Lastly, the tool looks at how the individual feels that care providers can integrate his beliefs into the healing procedures. With this in mind, it is important to look at the various healing methods that can be used by the nursing professionals to deliver wholesome healing, which incorporates the spiritual wellness of an individual. When looking at the spiritual healing, there is the need to look at some of the professions that can apply the holistic approach to look at the spiritual as well as physical healing of individuals. Top on the line of professionals to be consulted for this course are the nursing professionals. Since the needs of the people are diverse, the nurses have to find a way of ensuring that they effectively take care of the concerns of the people. Since the needs of the people are diverse, the nurses also have to come up with diverse ways of ensuring that they satisfy the needs of the people. The paragraphs below indicate some of the methods that are used for healing. Creative Healing Using Art and Music When the issue of holistic care is brought up, there has to be means of ensuring that the different aspects of an individual`s life are well taken care of. These include the physical, spiritual and even emotional well being. Some of the aspects of holistic healing are as described below. Music has been used as a therapy for quite a long time. Even in the biblical accounts, there is an indication that music was used as therapy. It is indicated that when King Saul had seizures from the evil spirits, he could be calmed down when David played the harp for him. This is just an indication that music can actually apply as a form of spiritual care. This discovery has been incorporated into the modern nursing where the use of music has become widespread in the curative centers. Just to find out how much music has been used as a therapy, this essay will focus on the study carried out by Hendricks (1999) where he tracked the progress of 200 adolescents who sought counseling services. He indicated that music has the ability to calm down the nerves and that is why it was used for adolescents with depression. The study found out that on listening to music, the adolescents would calm down and regain their normal selves. Similarly, music has been widely used in the wards for convalescents. This is seen in instances where the nursing professionals often allow slow, smooth and soft music to sift through the wards where the people are recovering, and also in the outpatient sections of the hospital. The end result is that the people do recover faster. In light of this, the modern nursing professionals should explore this form of therapy....
