A Nursing Professional Development Specialist or NPDS is primarily administrative personnel whose knowledge in both clinical and educational practice allows them to mentor and provide guidance to junior nurses. In the hospital setting, NPDS is responsible for assessing, developing, and making decisions that foster professional development in the nursing department (Jasper, Rooser & Mooney, 2013). This is through in-training activities such that continuing nurses are offered challenges on topics based on individual specialty thus address specialized educational needs amongst the nurses.
