Also, professionalism acts as a yardstick in evaluating the competence level of nurses working in health institutions. The following are some of the components that exhibit the level of professionalism of a person.
Attitude
In the field of nursing, attitude is everything. This entails the way you view the world and the manner in which you depict the same view to other individuals. In this case, if one views the world in a negative way he or she will exhibit the same attitude towards others. As a result, such an individual will tend to treat others in a terrible way hence making the workplace to be miserable. Moreover, attitude is essential in the case of teamwork which is often used in many organizations as they try to achieve the organizational goals and objectives (Grice & Meehan, 2014). In this context, teamwork cannot be achieved in a health institution since the rest will be demoralized by one person who tends to portray a negative insolence towards other hence making the relationship to be of less benefit to others and the organization to be specific. According research, people tend to behave in this manner because of life frustrations that they may have encountered before. Therefore, they may prefer sharing their frustrations by treating others in a bad manner to counter what they are feeling. On the other hand, individuals display such a negative attitude because they may be seeking attention from other by intimidating other workmates. In this manner, such individuals fail to concentrate and focus on helping other patients. As a matter of fact, individuals in such a situation should live personal issues at home and avoid bringing them in the work area.
As a nurse, one needs to control feelings and know how to relate with people in a positive and arm attitude even though they may be facing other problems. It more than a requirement for one to portray positive attitude by relating well with others in order to achieve positive co-existence with others. In some health institutions, for example, success is not achievable due to such factors that act as constraints. In the health sector, individuals with such behavior have often faced disciplinary actions due to misconduct that has led to deaths of patients. A good example of negative attitude at workplace involves when a health practitioner does not respect other individuals and treats patients with minimal respect. Appearances are important especially in professional courses and careers. This entails the way one presents himself to the world. In this case, when one represents him or herself in a professional manner he is likely to be respected and given more attention by clients visiting the organization. The first impression that a customer or patient receives from a nurse is very important since it is what the client will always have in mind about the individual.
