Potential Budget and Benefits of the Capstone Project
The project will mainly focus on the problem of nurse burnout and its implications within the nursing sector. Nurse burnout includes the physical burden that nurses often have to bear as they execute their tasks, the mental issues they develop while at work, as well as stress. Burnout is a major hurdle to providing quality care in the healthcare sector. Moreover, it hampers the provision of care tailored to the patients' needs. Aside from the implications on patients, burnout also impacts inter-professional collaboration. The healthcare sector is a system made up of nurses, physicians, management, and other medical professionals (National Academy of Engineering and the Institute of Medicine, 2005). For care provision to be a success, each of the elements in this system has to work with the other. However, if the nurses feel the effects of burnout, the chances are high that they will not work seamlessly with the other elements in the system. Therefore, there is a need to ensure that every element in the system is working at its optimal level for the healthcare system to cater to the needs of the public.
For the capstone project, the budget will mainly be utilized in the distribution of the interviews because they will be done physically. The target healthcare organization is local to help gift the project a personal touch. The sample population will mainly be limited to the nurses working within a local healthcare center. Therefore, the costs to be incurred will mainly be centered on printing the interview questions and distributing them to the nurses. These logistical costs are not likely to be strenuous enough to cause a major problem during the project. However, for the sake of clarity, here is a breakdown of the potential budget:
Printing Costs: $10 on the higher side
Transport Costs: $40 on the higher side
The only costs to be incurred include printing costs and transport costs. However, these costs are insignificant when one considers the benefits of the Capstone Project. The Capstone Project will help showcase the dangers of having a workforce that is suffering from burnout. According to Darban et al. (2016), burnout in the workplace impedes communication. In a healthcare setting, communication is crucial for inter-professional and inter-departmental collaboration. When healthcare professionals cannot communicate, the chances are high that the outcome or results will be greatly hampered. Patients are the most that will suffer the brunt of communication breakdown.
