Organizational Readiness: Tenet Healthcare
The purpose of this paper is to assess the readiness of a specific healthcare organization (Tenet Healthcare) and prepare a strategic plan to promote network growth, nurse staffing, resources management, and patient satisfaction in the organization. Also, the paper will identify current issues within the organization's culture that can affect the strategic plan. An implementation theory will also be discussed.
Tenet Healthcare: An Overview
Tenet Healthcare Corporation is an American healthcare services organization with headquarters in Dallas, Texas. It provides healthcare services through its 65 hospitals and over 550 outpatient centers throughout the country (Tenet Health). It also has over 100,000 employees and about 5, 000 physician partners. Such partnerships have been instrumental in enhancing access to primary care. Given the cost of healthcare in the United States and the need to prioritize quality over quantity, Tenet Healthcare offers value-based healthcare services to more than 600 clients in the country through its Conifer Health Solutions (Tenet Health). Its vision is “to consistently deliver the right care, in the right place, at the right time and to be a premier organization to work for, where patient care and saving lives remain our focus (Tenet Health,p.3).” Through this vision, the organization continues to look for ways to improve the delivery of care and meet the changing needs of patients. Its mission is to “provide quality, compassionate care in the communities we serve (Tenet Health,p.2).” Through this mission, the organization has always focused on promoting community health and wellness to patients and families in different communities. The organization is guided and based on the values of integrity, compassion, respect, inclusivity, accountability, and transparency (Tenet Health,p.2).” The company is not only involved in providing healthcare services but also other services that improve the well-being of the communities it serves through its community service programs. Its community service programs support education in different communities through scholarships, fight hunger, and respond to natural calamities that affect communities.
Overall Readiness
In the next decade, citizens will be in greater need of healthcare services and healthcare organizations need to adjust to ensure they meet these needs. More Americans will require primary care because of an aging population, a rise in the number of insured citizens, and population growth, among others (Zhang et al., 2020; Prunuske, 2020). An aging population is associated with more chronic conditions. A growing population means more people will need patient education, health maintenance, and promotion and treatment for illnesses. With its current number of outpatient centers and hospitals, Tenet is prepared to deal with the current needs of the communities it serves. However, the organization will need to expand its facilities to accommodate the needs of a bigger and older population. The organization is also ready to address the need for primary care through its established physician partnerships (Tenet Health). However, it is estimated that by 2030, there will be a deficit of 139 160 physicians in the country (Zhang et al., 2020). This shortage will also affect Tenet’s physician partnerships and as such, the organization needs to establish a way of ensuring that access to primary care is sufficient in the next decade. Currently, the organization cannot rely on nurse practitioners to fully provide primary care because the scope of nurse practitioners in some states is limited (Barnes et al., 2018). However, they can focus on the early recruitment of physicians. Since it already has education initiatives in communities, it can use them to provide scholarships and encourage students to become physicians in the organization.
Strategic Plan
* Objective 1: To promote network growth by increasing the number of hospitals from 65 to 80 by 2030
Network growth is one of the best ways to expand the delivery of care and improve access across the country. Currently, the organization has 65 hospitals and based on its history, it can expand further. The best strategy is to acquire hospitals across the countries. The company can ensure that it acquires at least one hospital per year. This strategy has worked for the organization in the past because the first expansion occurred in 1969 when the organization bought four hospitals (Tenet Health). It has recent acquisitions as well, such as CareSpot Express Healthcare.
* Objective 2: To improve nurse staffing
In the past, the organization has experienced issues in nurse staffing and has been accuse...
