Mental health problems such as depression and anxiety are common illnesses that massively impact the life of the victim, family, and society leading to worrisome public health complications. Young people are usually vulnerable to mental issues due to developmental changes (physical, cognitive, and emotional changes) during adolescence. As a result, healthcare providers put more effort into helping this age group because early detection of mental health issues is an effective way to understand the issue and propose better management options. Mental health nurses have played a significant role in trying to help sufferers by integrating evidence-based frameworks for better nursing management. This paper will reflect on whether school nurses are capable of helping adolescent students struggling with mental health problems using two articles, “Markkanen et al. (2021) and Moen & Jacobsen (2022)”. The paper also describes prevention and intervention program that school nurse uses to offer help and the impact of collaboration in the fight against mental health problems in adolescents.

Markkanen et al. (2021) describe the roles of institute nurses in supporting learners' psychological well-being in learning institutions. It also aims to describe the mental fitness difficulties school nurses have noted, their preparedness to aid these students, interventions applied, and hindrances when supporting students' mental health. On the flip side, Moen & Jacobsen (2022) aims to explore experiences that nurses encounter with psychological health and the mechanisms they use to recognize, talk, and interpose with teenagers struggling with psychological complications. For Markkanen et al. (2021) study, the most common variable was the independent (n=59, 44%), coursework (n=26, 20%), staff development (n=50, 38%), and education during studies (n=25, 19%). For Moen & Jacobsen's (2022) research, the insufficient collective associates and partnerships were individually dependent. Markkanen et al. (2021) applied a cross-sectional study design, while Moen & Jacobsen (2022) applied a qualitative descriptive inductive design to obtain detailed knowledge and examine nurses' experience.
The Markkanen et al. (2021) study population was obtained from the Finnish Public Health Nursing Association, a member register formed in 1938. This member register is a voluntary-based professional association for public audiologists and nurses with 7500 members (64% public health nurses and 26% school nurses workers). Conversely, the Moen & Jacobsen (2022) study population involved 21 school nurses who embraced the idea of participation in the study. The school nurse's ages varied from 30 to 61, and had diverse job experience. Fourteen nurses had over one postgraduate education and 11 in child development and psychological wellbeing.
In the study by Markkanen et al. (2021), a national survey of Finnish Public Health Association participants was carried out for 21% of school nurses (136/648). The survey questionnaire was studied through qualitative data and descriptive statistics using manifest content analysis. Moen & Jacobsen's (2022) study used a focus group interview. Focus group interview provides an efficient way of engaging people by encouraging participant interrelation to examine, clarify, and build upon other people's ideas (Rising et al., 2019). The last author carried out these interviews at the school nurse workplace involving 3 groups, each with 6 associates and 1 group containing three members. Focus groups were selected since the discussion amongst the members might provide varied and rich statistics.
Markkanen et al. (2021) found that school nurses are vital in dealing with scholars with mental well-being because they know the mental health complications in their learning institutions. Moreover, this study noted that school nurses posse effective and efficient knowledge and skills to help diverse students with mental concerns. Conversely, Moen & Jacobsen (2022) found that various prevention and intervention programs exist to foster worthy psychological well-being and how teenagers can improve their mental wellness. The study also found that allowing students to air their feelings is crucial to promoting their mental wellness.

For Markkanen et al. (2021) study, the most common variable was the independent (n=59, 44%), coursework (n=26, 20%), staff development (n=50, 38%), and education during studies (n=25, 19%). For Moen & Jacobsen's (2022) research, the lack of cooperative associates and partnerships was individual dependent. Markkanen et al. (2021) descriptive study applied a cross-sectional study design. The invitation emails were referred to 648 Association affiliates who were school nurses. The online survey methodology was selected in this study. This is because an online survey saves the researcher time, is affordable, and allows access to unique populations that are hard to reach using other channels (Oliveri et al., 2021). The participants were given the chance to withdraw participation at any given phase. On the other hand, Moen & Jacobsen (2022) study utilized qualitative descriptive inductive design to get a profound knowledge and scrutinize the nurses' working familiarities.
Markkanen et al. (2021) study constituted Finland's school nurses who are competent well-being nurses with bachelor's degrees from a university offering applied science courses for 4 years.
