Improving Diagnostic Safety
I learned a lot about diagnostic safety from the presentation. First, I understood how medical errors result in poor quality delivery in the whole hospital system leading to poor quality delivery of care services to patients. Due to such poor quality services, I learned that experts rank medical errors in the third position as the causes of death for patients (Mane et al., 2018). Therefore improvements have to be initiated at the diagnosis stages in every healthcare facility to help curb medical errors.
I equally learned that the errors observed in diagnostic stages are human-initiated. Human factors play a significant role in diagnostic errors. Therefore, it is essential to adopt initiatives with healthcare facilities that would help in improving the safety and accuracy of diagnostic tests. I noted that several approaches include the application of diagnostic error-index, machine learning which applies causal reasoning and implementing educational programs for healthcare workers.
