Shared governance is increasingly playing a prominent role in nursing practice, as decision making becomes more decentralized and participatory (Brandt et al., 2012). In the case of nursing professional development education, there are more shared responsibilities for education outcome. Nurse development indicators may seek answers from colleagues when faced with legal and ethical issues, but when they have no answer then they contact professional organizations or do more research. Legal and ethical issues that may affect the nurse development educator include standards of nursing practice, plagiarism, copyright laws and ethics.
Increased popularity of distance education through online platforms has created challenges for development educators who need to adhere to the provisions of the TEACH Act of 2002 (UTexas, n.d). The Act expand gives educators the right to make copies and display works through digital means for the furtherance of education.
