• Reflect on the specific socioeconomic, spiritual, lifestyle, and other cultural factors related to the health of the patient assigned to you.
• Consider how you would build a health history for the patient. What questions would you ask, and how would you frame them to be sensitive to the patient’s background, lifestyle, and culture? Develop five targeted questions you would ask the patient to build his or her health history and to assess his or her health risks.
• Think about the challenges associated with communicating with patients from a variety of specific populations. What strategies can you as a nurse employ to be sensitive to different cultural factors while gathering the pertinent information?

Introduction
We are living in a highly diverse environment characterized by multiple and intricate interactions of issues more than ever before. The globalization coupled state of the art technologies has enabled seamless possibilities that include increased mobility and global interaction of people through face-face or via other technology-supported platforms. This heterogeneity is reflected in healthcare where healthcare professionals held are responsible for delivering services to clients from diverse cultural, economic, political, and ethnic backgrounds.
Selected Patient/Case Scenario
MR is a 23-year old Native American male who came to the clinic with complaints of anxiety. He reports the history of smoking ‘pot’ and alcohol drinking, but his concern is that his behavior will not make him get into heaven. He denies drug abuse. He is currently on no prescriptions, and he has a familial history of diabetes, alcoholism, and hypertension.
Reflection as a Nurse
In response to a range of diversities in healthcare delivery being informed by my experience in healthcare, I find it crucial that healthcare professionals should be cognizant of inherent diversity in people. We should be aware of and accept the existing differences by ensuring that we develop a system of healthcare delivery that is corresponding to diversity. Our diversity affects how healthcare givers provide services and how recipients of such services respond. Health assessment, as one of the critical areas in healthcare, demands competence to handle diversity. The aspect of human heterogeneity that encompasses culture, religion, ethnicity, and any other dimension, can influence how an individual seeks and perceive health (Hendel & Kagan, 2014). We are aware of how our differences have determined health across various communities and regions. For example, racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S are disproportionately affected by chronic illnesses. Ethnicity, literacy levels, and language differences are likely to determine health and, thus, all these factors ought to be considered when implementing health assessment. I believe that in health assessment, one must be competent enough to handle the issue of any form of diversity and aligned the individualized management approach that is geared towards better health outcomes.
