Trans-theoretical model (TTM) of behavioral change is one of the best frameworks that can be used in the treatment of sepsis. The theory holds that transition is a continuous process that occurs for long period of time. The change process occurs through a series of stages such as precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance. Therefore, the assignment focuses on the application of TTM to the sepsis medical intervention.
The first stage is known as precontemplation which is also called not ready phase. Individuals who are involved at the stage have no intention of taking any action in the foreseeable future. Also, the people at the stage are not aware that their behaviors may be problematic. Further, people at the phase places more focus on the cons of transforming their behavior and underestimate the pros of their actions. Similarly, the problem of sepsis is unknown to people at first and they are only aware of the pros of changing their behavior not to contract the disease (Gyang et al., 2015). However, they are less aware of its pros as they have never experienced it in their lives.
The second phase is contemplation which is the start stage where people intend to begin a healthy behavior in the foreseeable future. The people at the stage recognize that their actions may be problematic (Hart, Bird & Holloway, 2016). Moreover, there is high practical consideration regarding the cons and pros of change where each one of them is given equal consideration. Also, they are ambivalent about changing their behavior. Therefore, the people at this stage are aware of the pros and cons of avoiding and treating sepsis and they have mixed reactions regarding the best behaviors to adapt to help them in such situations.
The third stage is preparation where people are ready to start taking action within the next 30 days. Additionally, people at the stage believe that change will give them a better life and they will start appreciating the importance of undergoing the transition process (Hart, Bird & Holloway, 2016). Hence, this stage is associated with better knowledge regarding the cons of contracting sepsis in addition to the pros of receiving better treatment. Therefore, they will tend to change their behaviors so that th...
