We will also examine the various topics pertaining to teaching methods such as proficiency levels, teacher feedback vs. evaluation, and assessment practices. However, the field of ASL ( American sign language) teaching is too broad to condense in one semester. Thus, the ability to locate and synthesize research on ASL teaching is critical to our future as successful ASL instructors. In this course, we will write a 2000 word research paper (about 8 pages) on an ASL teaching method.

The task of writing a research paper, especially in a condensed semester, can appear insurmountable at times. For this semester, however, the task of writing the research paper has been broken down into four different steps and deadlines. They are outlined below.
Brainstorm 2-3 ideas for your research paper.
To brainstorm ideas for your 8 page research paper, you are encouraged to skim through your textbooks, go to the library, search on scholar.google.com (not google.com), and engage in discussions with your classmates.
While the topic must be related to ASL teaching methods, you will want to pick something that interests you. Writing an 8 page paper about something that does not interest at all will make the task much more difficult than it needs to be.
Your research paper ideas must be approved by the instructor. Be aware of this before you do too much.
Submit at least 8 references in APA format.
After your ideas have been approved by the instructor, begin your research. The rule of thumb is to have at least one reference for each page. For an 8 page paper, you will want at least 8 references.
The final research paper needs to be in APA format. Thus, you are required to submit the list of references in APA format. Many websites will automatically set up the citations as APA or you can use various websites such as Purdue OWL (Google it) to help you format it. The library can also help as well.
Remember that for a research paper, the sources must be scholarly. Stay away from websites such as Wikipedia or About.com. Most sources on scholar.google.com are scholarly. You can also ask the library for assistance.
Submit an outline of your term paper.
Decide how your paper will be structured and write a rough outline of your paper. (The more detailed and organized your outline is, the easier time you will have of writing your final research paper.)
Remember that every paper needs an introduction, body, and closing paragraph. Every paper also needs a strong thesis statement. Decide what that is and make sure the rest of your paper ties into the thesis statement.
Submit a completed term paper.
Complete your research paper. Remember that it needs to be a minimum of 2000 words, not including the cover or the citation pages.
