Argument Analysis on COVID-19 and the 5G Conspiracy

Assignment Details

Part 1:
Please find an argument to analyze. Be creative! Some suggestions are to use a commercial, letter to the editor (or op/ed piece). Analyze the argument you choose.

What is the main purpose of the argument?
Is it inductive? Deductive?
Are there any fallacies being used? If so, which ones?

Part 2:
Does the argument align with a philosophical theory or theorist? Choose one philosophical theory or theorist and explain – from that perspective – what you would change to make the argument better. Think about the steps that you could use to improve the argument. For example, if you pick Socrates as a theorist think of how Socrates would reflect upon and engage the argument for change.

Look for common fallacies like:
Circular thinking – typically restating the premise in the conclusion and creating a “circular” argument
Appeals to authority – generally this fallacy considers an argument that we should listen to based on some “false” or “non” authority. Is this happening in your argument example?
False cause – in this fallacy the writer or speaker attributes a “false” cause to some effect or result (often you will see superstitious thinking used here).
Sweeping generalizations – this fallacy occurs when an individual makes generalizations (usually stereotypical thinking)
Equivocation – in this fallacy a person confuses two senses of the meaning of a word (like a free animal- is it free because it doesn’t cost anything or is it free because it is not in a “cage”?)
Red herring – very common in political settings. This fallacy is a distraction (think of a big red fish – pretty distracting, right?)

Utilize at least 2 credible sources to support the arguments presented in the paper. Make sure you cite them appropriately within your paper, and list them in APA format on your Reference page. Your paper should be 4-6 pages in length, not counting the Title page and Reference page. In accordance with APA formatting requirements, your paper should include a Title and Reference page, should be double-spaced, and include a running head and page numbers.

Covid-19 and 5 G Conspiracy Argument
Part 1
Both individuals and organizations played a significant role in spreading the 5G and Covid-19 conspiracy. It was a mere fallacy that had no scientific or technological backup. However, despite being a fallacy and inductive argument with no truth embedded in it, most people still believed it. Out of the data collected in various organizations and institutions, it was clear that the argument was all about lies and infliction of fear to people (Wilken, 2020). It is unfortunate how the myth moved from one mainstream media to another regardless of its misconception. Since the start of the pandemic in 2019, before the world experienced the climax in terms of death tolls, the conspiracy moved forward, and most people were affected in varied dimensions.
According to Heilweil 2020, the first instance of the argument was reported by John Gregory from "Les Moutons enrages." The website pointed its figures to the Wuhan province, where the virus originated. The connection between the advanced network and the virus did not stitch together. Anyway, people still believed the myth. The primary purpose of this particular argument was to show the relationship between the virus and the 5G network (Heilweil, 2020). Additionally, it was meant to inflict fear rather than educate people on the truth revolving around the pandemic. As we all witnessed across Europe and America, network towers were put in the blaze. The reason behind it was just a fallacy, and the conspiracists believed that electronic gadgets such as mobile phones were used to spread the virus.
It would take logical reasoning to understand that mobile phones and viruses in the blood have no direct relations. There is no way the virus could have been spread through mobile phones or other electronic gadgets. Most internet technocrats showed that the theory was just a mere fallacy, and it had no scientific backup whatsoever. It does not require deep knowledge of technology to understand that unlearned people just stewarded the argument. All sorts of arguments to support the claim were spread across mainstream media and other channels (Wilken, 2020). Everyone was focused on understanding the correlation. The argument can be described as inductive since it does not have any truthful conclusion. It is just filled with theories and thoughts which are entirely irrelevant.
Inductive arguments do not last since they have no scientific backing. Despite running for almost two years, the argument is longer there, and people are healing and accepting the actuality of the covid-19 virus. Several fallacies are used in the argument. Firstly, the theorists argued by questions (Hendricks, 2017). Argument by questions is a form of fallacy where people or involved parties try to answer questions by raising other questions. For example, how would these doctors and scientists push us to believe that the virus is unrelated to the approved 5G network? Did the 5G in Wuhan finally destroy human cells that humans, hence depleting the population? These are fallacy-built questions. Secondly, there is an aspect of poisoning the wells in the argument. Poisoning the well is a type of fallacy where the opponents discredit the source of information (Hendricks, 2017). Most scientists and technological professionals discredited the information provided by these conspiracists.
Part 2
Over the decades, philosophers have fashioned theories that would help explain their arguments in a particular subject matter. Some of the theories were le...
